South African GMO Crop Failure Highlights Dangers of Food Supply Domination
Friday, April 03, 2009 by: Barbara L. Minton
http://www.naturalnews.com/025992.html
“Then when the spreading of seeds is nearly complete, Monsanto begins to threaten these farmers and call their use of the GMO seed illegal. It gets the government behind them to enforce patent laws. Soon farmers who are paying patent royalties complain about those who are not. Monsanto answers by enforcing their patents on everyone. By this time the spread of GMO seed is so pervasive that any farmer who has refused is bound to have a few stray GMO plants in his fields.”

Americans have been eating it for 30 years, and no ill effects have been found yet... so we must ban it ASAP? *sigh*

How many “new” diseases have developed in the last 30 years? *double sigh*

why can’t the GMO be labeled in the USA?

***************************************
Monsanto said no, and that’s that - doesn’t matter what the peons want.

They also still have ertain ownership rights of the seeds you buy. If you have too many, the leftovers can not be sold etc. And, if you are growing heirloom corn that accidentally crosses with the Monsanto corn. You could be sued for patent infringement.

When they publically state they are not cloning, including human experiments with other species they lie, they have to and want to because other countries are doing it and they must be ahead of the game. We are in for quite a ride in the near future

Americans have NOT been eating GMOP modified foods for 30 years, the percentages of what is GMO vs what was natural is much more today than before

I choose not to eat frankenfoods when I have a choice

Monsanto and others are taking away that freedom

a counter to the last has been found.

The person sues Monsanto first (or countersues) for infecting their heirloom seed plants.

“Science” does not work the way most people think it does. The Benjamins have a lot more influence than just about anyone is willing to admit.

it is already illegal in Europe.

No, it's not.

why can’t the GMO be labeled in the USA? just labeled.

Because the European system is bogus, and the Europeans know it. Hybrid plants are GMO's. How do you distinguish between hybridizations produced in the "normal" way with those produced in labs? There is really no difference. Are you going to label Triticale as a GMO? It is. But because it's a European product, and because it was first germinated over 100 years ago, the Europeans don't label it as a "GMO."

The Europeans have an arbitrary classification system largely designed to keep their second-rate agriculture system running. They can't do that through competition, because they can't compete. So they set up arbitrary trade barriers like their "no GMO" rules. It's Baloney.

People reading this article say "BIG BAD MONSANTO." But nobody is questioning Zhang et. al., -- and they should -- because as long as we're impugning motives instead of doing science, the fact is that while Europe has a second rate agricultural system, China's is third rate and they're doing everything they can to make sure that imports can't come in, but all of their toxic exports go out. Zhang et. al., has every bit as much nefarious incentive as Monsanto to skew research. But guess what? NOBODY has reproduced Zhang's work. NOBODY. And that isn't just people who had or have Monsanto sponsorship.

Good points all. Notice also that while Zhang (implicitly) and Vance (explicitly) accuse Monsanto of potential conflict of interest, no one wants to ask what possible conflicts of interest a Chinese researcher might have in keeping US agricultural products out of his country.

Yes, I am aware that some have taken this route, but Monsanto has the pockets to keep going and bankrupt the small farmer, if they decide to.

And, they are always sneaking stuff into other bills that make it even harder to prevail.

Everything that’s alive has DNA from viruses and bacteria merged into its DNA as well as transposons and retrotransposons from macro-organisms. Please learn some basic biology.
