He was a marginal four-star player on a three-star NCAA team, with a two-star schedule. He looked better than he really was. So, now is the big time, and his skills are limited but have potential. The trouble is...do you want to sign him and spend three years developing him....as he drags you around in some media-frenzy atmosphere? He’ll hook up and spend two or three seasons in the NFL, then get cut and end up in Canada for three seasons before he’s ‘retired’. It’ll be curious to see how he looks back on all of this in a decade.

Of course. But the pernicious effects of hiring people (or indeed not hiring them) based on criteria unrelated to the quality of their work have been percolating through society for a long time now. The Rams MAY have cut Sam for completely sound, business reasons - it certainly happens to all too many other hopefuls - but its impossible to prove that.

Conversely, that movie script you sweated over for years has just been rejected. They say its because its not good enough, but is it because you recently penned that article deploring the corrosive effects of feminism? Its difficult to tell - its almost impossible to prove.
