Wild rabbits are even worse. You have to be very, very careful when dressing out a wild rabbit. One little nick on your skin, and you could get Rabbit Fever. And that particular malady can take you down for months. Even years, if you’re an old person.
Can’t forget the bisquits fer sure. :-)
Squirrel burger is as normal and wholesome as you can get compared to most of the other stuff that nut usually and has consumed.

Cooked and picked squirrel looks like chicken. The texture is more like beef. I chop up all the meat for bbq. Squirrel has all the same parts as a deer or a cow - tenderloin, shoulder, hams, brisket, flank, neck. They are fastidiously clean inside and out. I’ve only run across two with the botfly larvae. Some have tons of fat inside and others have none. Females are generally larger than males. Male’s testicles can be enormous. What? When you kill and eat 500 squirrels, you see stuff.
Why couldn’t they catch a bird? They live in trees and are fast as lightning.
Do an image search for squirrel eating bird and see what you get.
Hey, facts is facts, right? Lol. As for the taste of squirrel, I’ve heard nothing but positive reviews, yours included. One of these days I’m going to try it.
Snails don't have the prions that squirrels can transmit to damage one's health.

My neighborhood is overwhelmed by them, and I bought a fancy high powered air rifle to assist.
Problem is my dog: when she sees me get out the air rifle, goes ape with excitement, and loudly scares the squirrels away.
My dog is very squirrel-centric. She loves the chase, loves the taste, etc.
If the squirrel is in her mouth by the time I get there, she gets to keep it, which is accordance with my rule of never eating anything that has been in a dogs mouth.
Sounds like good eating. You have a good plan for getting out the squirrel meat.... like picking over a turkey carcass after Thanksgiving
I think it would be good in a quickie type Shepard’s pie topped with mashed potatoes or mashed turnips
