One of my best laptops was an acer. There really isn’t a dummies site.Cnet is good for computer information, but not tablet info. I used to go there and then to Tiger Direct and put together a good computer.
Noooooooooo. Noooooooo apple!!!!!
Very nice but this is more of a lap top. I am looking for a ten inchscreen teeny tablet pad.
Have you looked on ebay?
Thanks. I am basically using my computer for searches, e-mail and to develop powerpoints and handouts for my SS Class and Missions group so I need to be able to hook up to a projector. This computer I am on is still plugging away but thought I needed something smaller in case the electric went out. Probably need to check with a computer technology person. Your post has given quite a few opinions. Thanks again.
main reason I got the Asus T100 is that it comes with a detachable keyboard and can use as a notebook or just haul the tablet around if you want. Definitely best deal out there. Not much horsepower but it is only $300. If you don’t care about the docking keyboard there are other options
The Asus Transformer *is* quite nice, a friend has one, absolutely loves it. If I were looking right now, the Yoga 3 and Transformer would be the two that I look at.
There are close to 1000 of them for sale on eBay, most for under ten bucks
I have an original iPad that hubby still uses. I recently bought me a new one. I am also on my third iPhone. Apple products ‘just work’. You really should try one before purchasing anything else. I have friends that have purchased other tablets and when they either couldn’t get them to work or they just wouldn’t work broke down and bought iPads. The other tablets are doorstops now.
‘soup:
Based on the information that you want a full version of Windows (not RT, tablet-only apps) I heartily recommend the Surface Pro 3.
The resolution is great; the performance is very good, and it works equally well with touch, pen (included), or the attachable keyboard.
It’s on a black Friday weekend special for $100-$150 off and, if you’re really into boosting the economy, there’s a separate deal for a 4k monitor and docking station.
In general, I return items unopened and unused, unless defective. Here's a story for you. One of my wife's brothers is a manager at Walgreens. A couple days ago he told us that last week a black woman came to his counter at Walgreens inquiring about some expensive headphones. She started to walk away with them, he told her to return it to him or pay for it. She insisted on holding on to them while she picked up other items in the store, and said she would pay at another register. She didn't return. He then found out from a co-worker at break that said black woman returned the item for cash at the other register. Apparently, they use old receipts, pick up duplicate items and get a refund all in the same visit, scamming the store. Says they have a lot of shoplifting theft. Valid returns are a drop in the bucket compared to shoplifting loss.
Surface pro 3. Best tablet and laptop all in one.
I’m typing this on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10”, that I got from Best Buy. I like it so much I also bought the 7” version, to keep by my bed. That one replaces the ancient original Galaxy Tab I’ve had for years.
Yes by all means stay away from the evil Apple!!! We all know what the Apple did to Adam ...
You could even come down with all sorts of terminal maladies for which there is no known cure ...
It is always best, when spending hundreds of hard earned dollars on a product, to self-limit the choices for no rational reason whatsoever ...
Are you sure you need a tablet?
I have the Asus and use it as an ultra small laptop but for things which most people would use a tablet, I use my phone. Have you looked at the larger screen phones?
I bought my kids the Moto G with a 5 inch screen, both of them have pretty much stopped using tablets now. With my old eyes, I think if I bumped up to a 6 inch screen I would be set.
For now, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2" which I really like, but I do need Microsoft Excel a lot so I'm always back working on a computer somewhere.
I’m in the technology business. I’ll tell you what I have, how I use it and you can add that to your knowledge store. I have a desktop, a business class laptop. a Surface Pro, A Samsung Galaxy Tab and a Venue.
The laptop and the Surface are my workhorses. The Pro works as both a laptop and a tablet. Where it beats the laptop is in speed - it boots in 3 seconds and is faster than the laptop even though the laptop has more memory and an i7 processor. The laptop has more storage and more flexibility for add-ons. I prefer to read and produce most documents on the Pro. I prefer the laptop for things that require processing and testing.
I bought the Tab to use in the house - mostly the kitchen - because I don’t use cookbooks or hard copy recipes, etc. Its a good tablet, great for browsing and reading and games and apps. Because its an Android, I found that there is no easy way to exchange documents with my other machines. I bought the Venue and I am happy with it because I can look at my recipes in pdf, Word or HTML format - it just doesn’t matter. With a cloud based hosted Exchange service, I have easy access to my documents, my calendar and my e-mail from any of the Windows devices.
I’m going to give the Tab to my grandson at Christmas. I don’t get it out anymore - half the time I don’t know where it is. The Pro and Venue are just more useful to me and have the advantage of vendor support.
