I was so hoping the Panthers would skip Newton and wait for the following year to go after Luck.
But Nooooo!

Here in Indy this doesn’t surprise anyone. Luck gets a lot of TV attention here locally and he’s truely a humble, respectful, nice guy. It’s for real, not just head games. That’s who he is. And it will pay off big time later in his career. I saw if with Favre. The respect he engenders among his defensive opponants will result in a lot of guys pulling up and settling for just a sack rather than taking his head off in the process.
If soldiers in war can, often but not always, respect their foes and treat them as fellow soldiers when in a POW situation, then certainly athletes should be able to do the same.
It’s called “good sportsmanship”. Pity it’s so rare in pro ball these days.
Sounds like Luck is practicing something like that.
Luck is a stud and barring injury he will be a Superbowl winner one day - Hall of Fame, too. I pull for the Colts as long as they aren’t playing the Seahawks.
About a week ago I saw a “mic’d” film of Luck. His comments to the defense after a hit indeed seem genuine. He appreciates the game, the opponent and it is all honest.
I think quite highly of him now.
Another segment last year was about Richard Sherman of the Seahawks and his trash-talking ethos. How he gets into the heads of opponents by bringing up their families.
He was then asked how he approaches specific players, to which he mentioned family members by name.
The key point was when he was asked about Larry Fitzgerald. His reply was something like “Man, I can’t trash-talk him. he’s too nice a guy and too hard a player”
Says a lot about another guy who has earned a ton of respect by being a positive person on and off the field.
I’ll listen for that Sunday. He should get a chance or Two...
Luck is amazing player.
Read a year or two ago that he still carries an old flip phone. Teammates rag him about his uncool cell phone.
I think he’s great!
I’m not a Colts fan but I love watching Luck play football. He is a real competitive person who has great skills and a great mind. This story makes me like him even more.
