There were plenty of explanations offered, first by Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, then by offensive coordinator Darren Bevell and quarterback Russell Wilson, but at the end of Super Bowl XLIX, with everyone left breathless, the question still hanging out there along with the confetti falling on the victorious Patriots:
How in the world does Marshawn Lynch, as fearsome a runner as there is, not get the ball on second down from the New England 1-yard line in the final seconds?
We had it, Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin said. I dont know how you dont give it to the best back in the league on not even the 1-yard line? We were on the half-yard line and we throw a slant. I dont know what the offense had going on, what they saw. I just dont understand.

"I was hoping they were going to just fall into the goal. That's all that needed to happen," said Baily, 23.
Lynch was just there so he wouldn’t be fined.
“Must really stink being a Seahawks fan.”
Even worse, to be a Seahawks player
Money changed hands, somewhere. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it...
For the Seattle Seahawks, a second consecutive Super Bowl victory was just 1 yard away, with 26 seconds remaining in the game.
But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.
All scripture is given .. (snip) for instrucdtion in righteousness
Malcom Butler was in absolute awe every second from the time God gave him the ball until the camera's finally stopped trying to get him to say something .. I saw him point to the sky twice
God is an American Patriot and will pull us out in the last seconds
I wonder if there ever was a team that had needed as much dumb luck to get as far as they did.
It’s obvious that they thought that a pass instead of the run would catch them off guard. They were wrong.
Well, they did win it all just last year. Not many teams have ever gotten to two straight SB’s.
I was honestly stunned. Immediately, I turned to my wife and said, “That might be the worst play call in the history of football. Whoever decided on that play should be hung before midnight.”
I cannot put into words for the lay person, including my wife, how utterly incomprehensibly stupid it was. There is almost nothing to compare it to.
“Emily Simpson and Steven Baily were already for another celebration.”
Already? ugh
The thinking here is that they tried to outwit the Pats Defense, That should have been a running play, not a passing one.
Trying to outwit the Patriots is a bad idea, a high level of Football knowledge and intelligence is a requirement for a contract.
A great, great, play by Butler.
Could not happen to a better team. Classless and thuggish.
From Baldwin crap on the football celebration to getting guys ejected for fighting with 20 seconds to go. Stay Classy Seattle.
It was indeed an unbelievable grab. Perfect timing. The poor kid was still overwrought this morning.
