It was a year ago - the Sunday after Super Bowl XLVIII at 8pmET - that Michael Sam turned speculation into reality: One of college football's best players, and a top NFL prospect, was gay.

In the coming months he was showered with praise. Eric Dickerson would offer him congratulations. Michael Irvin would call him his friend. Robert Quinn welcomed him to the Rams. Even the President of the United States, Barack Obama himself, would laud him.

Playing the gay card. The author claims "Sam is the only drafted Defensive Player of the Year of any of the big five football conferences - ACC, Big Ten, Big XII, Pac 12 and SEC - in the last 20 years to not make an active roster his rookie season"

The SEC has only selected a defensive player of the year starting in 2003. One of the co-defensive winners from the Big 12 in 2013, Jackson Jeffcoat, went undrafted. Was cut from Seattle, cut and resigned by the Deadskins and played in a garbage Week 16 game.

The NFL never called me, either.

Who do I sue?

Ah, the MSM.

If it ain’t gay, it won’t play.

Shove it, MSM.

Do like your heroes do.

But NONE of those people were praising/lauding him primarily for his playing ability.

The writer claims Sam is so wonderful he was responsible for Dallas having a good season even when he did not play one snap and somehow he being cut from the practice squad was responsible for them going 0-2 when they cut him.

I didn’t know that this guy “proposed” to his boyfriend on the roof of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

Of all the places two homosexuals can choose to confirm their masturbatory urges in so-called “gay marriage” - they have to choose St. Peter’s Basilica.

If that’s not a calculated insult, I don’t know what is.

Cyd Ziegler thinks that Sam is one of college football's "best players"? LOL!

Look at it this was Cyd, Sam will be able to spend more "quality time" with his "significant other". Ya gotta keep football "in perspective" bubba!

One of college football's best players, and a top NFL prospect, was gay.

Sam was in fact ranked 169th in the class by Draft Scout. There are Heisman Trophy winners that don't make it in the NFL.

"That's peculiar to me," Sports Illustrated's MMQB guru Peter King told me. "It's pretty odd that Michael Sam, who was a great guy in camp with the Rams, from all reports was a great guy on the practice squad with the Cowboys, can't get a sniff for the last 10 weeks of the season, and can't get a futures contract now, even though he wants very much to play and he's working out to play."

Again, no mention of his playing ability. There is a HUGE difference between being a "great guy" who gets along well with teammates, and being a professional-caliber PLAYER.

I beg to differ, obama was, albeit not for his ability on the....field.

If anyone want’s to know why he didn’t catch on they can just look at his numbers at the scouting combine. He isn’t strong enough to play DL and he’s way to slow to play LB. He just doesn’t have the physical skills to play football in the NFL.
