"So he told me that regardless if we put up the fliers, or if other people put them up, we had made the original flier that had my phone number, and that we could get fined up to 750,000,"

Police.

Can't live with 'em,

But we are going to have to learn to live without 'em.

Increasingly governments at all levels are using criminal law fines as “revenue enhancers.” Such a practice is totally corrupt as it places the prosecuting authority in the position of an interested party.(Conflict of interest.)

Sounds like a job for the Institute for Justice. As far as I can tell based on the article the only law they broke was failing to file that BS notice. How would they be responsible for someone posting more than the permitted posters?

“108.4 Any sign, advertisement, or poster that does not relate to the sale of goods or services may be affixed on public lampposts or appurtenances of a lamppost, subject to the restrictions set forth in this section”

Am I not understanding something? Doesn’t this allow for their lost dog posters?

I agree the law and the threat of fines stinks. Fortunately they can still post notices and distribute fliers at private businesses and residences with the owner’s permission. I bet there are places that have bulletin boards just for such fliers.

300 fine per flier

Possible $750,000 fine.

That is 2500 fliers.

Washington DC 68 sq miles.

Almost 37 per square mile.

Wikipedia list 1500 miles of public streets in Washington DC
Just guessing some of this isn’t accessible to common folk.

That is one every 1.6 miles on every street.

If they focused on the area the dog was lost say just 25% of the area. That makes it every .4 miles.

I could see how this could draw the cities attention.

Then are we support someone who choose to live in DC?

Seems to me some bureaucrat’s assets need to be forfeited to pay the fine, probably the asshole who made the harassing call, then there would be fewer calls
