It was decades before record technology could again equal the sound of the Columbia disks of the late 20s and early 30s.
They moved to lower fidelity because the high frequencies caused records to wear too quickly. Hi-Fi Victors (1932-34) sounded really good ONCE. On many people’s machines, they turned gray and fuzzy on the first playing.
