"A film called 'Truth' should be accurate," the iconic CBS news anchor said of director James Vanderbilts movie about his 2006 exit and the events leading to it.
Iconic CBS news anchor Dan Rather on Saturday praised the Robert Redford-starring Rathergate movie Truth for its accuracy and performances ahead of its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.
"Naturally I was pleased, and pleasantly surprised. This film is very accurate. A film called Truth should be accurate," Rather told the Hollywood Reporter during a pre-screening party. James Vanderbilt's movie centers on Rather's 2006 exit from CBS after a 60 Minutes investigation two years earlier into U.S. President George W. Bushs alleged draft-dodging during the Vietnam war.
Rather praised the performances of Redford as the famed CBS newsman and Cate Blanchett as his CBS 60 Minutes producer Mary Mapes. "The acting is superior. I think it's an emotional film. Of course people will say I found it emotional because it's about me. But I say that as objectively as I can," he said.

It will do well in the fiction class.
Is IconicCBSnewsanchorDanRather one word like, immortalbeethoven or battlehardenrepublicanguard?
Fake but accurate.
Wonder if this flick will mention the Freeper heros who caught this lying POS in his scandal?
Heh, Rathergate and accuracy.
Perhaps amongst the top tier of Oxymorons.
Rather is the prime example of how limited mentality can succeed in broadcast “journalism”.
What’s the Vegas line on whether or not it gets some hoity-toity prize in the documentary class?
LOL...Rather always was a legend in his own mind. The film will present Rather’s delusional version of the truth.
The only truth is Rather and Mapes were willing to do anything to affect the election and gain fame.
Fake and inaccurate.
If FR isn’t mentioned, it isn’t the whole truth. Buckhead’s post about the font not existing back then on typewriters got picked up by Little Green Footballs and went viral from there.
Dan who?
I actually met Dan one time. He is nice guy in person. To bad he is a whack job.
The New York Times peddled it in the story Memos on Bush are fake but accurate, typist says. Let it be noted that the Times threw two reporters at the story, published on September 15, 2004.
Having broadcast the story on September 8, 2004, CBS did not get around to retracting it until September 20, twelve days later. The fake but accurate line proved to be a temporary fallback. It was laughable even at the time, but when CBS retracted the story it cut the limb out from under its friends and fellow Bush haters at the Times.
True Lies
I will just say this. All anyone need do is go to imdb.com to look at the cast of this so-called “Truth”.
Everybody from Redford, to a “military wife” to the “man on the street” is cast. Everybody except Bill Burkett who is the man who provided the so-called fake-but-accurate documents to CBS - also the man widely believed to have been the forger. This character isn’t even in the cast.
That’s Redford’s “Truth”.
