Men, women and Ikea: It’s complicated
The Washington Post ^ | Dec 17, 2015 | Jeff Guo

Psychologists have long said that men tend to be better than women at spatial tasks, like mentally picturing and manipulating shapes. Hundreds of studies spanning several decades have shown that on average, men score higher on tests asking them to rotate objects in their heads.

This is one of the few persistent and significant differences scientists have discovered between the brains of men and women. The pattern also aligns, perhaps suspiciously, with stereotypes about men being better at reading maps or parking -- or putting together flat-pack furniture.

That last cliche might actually be true. Researchers at the University of Tromso in Norway recently published a study showing that men are better than women at assembling IKEA furniture.

I saw another study that compared the average number of words spoken daily by the two genders. The results were quite lopsided, as I recall.

If I had the choice, I prefer solid wood over compressed wood chips.

I would guess that this is generally true, though there are women who can do these things as well as men.

After watching the husband assemble Ikea stuff, I’d never try.

(I must say, I do hear a lot of very interesting new words coming from him, while he’s doing it...)

Women are pretty good at assembling babies after the first screw is inserted.

Makes sense.

It may be a stereotype but women are definitely much better suited for raising children than men. Including the fact that women are the food source for the first few years and carry the child for 9 months, women are also a lot more perceptive and communicative and empathetic. I believe it is so that the mother can assess the health of their child and provide assistance if needed. That kind of interaction is necessary for the survival of the child.

These characteristics are seen at a very early age where boys struggle with writing, a form of verbal expression, whereas girls do very well, and girls have difficulty with math.

This is typical but not absolute.

I'm presuming it's not "insert tab A into slot B".   ;-)

I haven’t spoken to my wife in over three months. We’re not fighting, I just don’t like to interrupt.

This article demonstrates how libtards have a strong need to ascribe nature vs. nurture opposite of reality. They want to believe homosexuality is 100% nature while geospatial and STEM skills are 100% nurture.

Men have to work harder deciphering what women are saying because they use the auditory part of the brain that processes music, not human voices.

Men’s brains are not designed to listen to women’s voices. It’s not the pitch of the woman’s voice, but rather the vibration and number of sound waves that cause the problem, notes Discovery News.

But guys have no trouble at all hearing each other because men use a much simpler brain mechanism at the back of the brain to decipher another man’s voice and recognize it as speech.

Men's brains are not designed to listen to women's voices.

What's funny about that is the vast majority of people set their GPS to a woman's voice. In the case of American women, no man is going to tell them what to do.
