The extremely elusive giant squid are typically never seen by the human eye but one four-metre long Architeuthis decided to put on a show for a group Japanese spectators on Christmas Eve. The massive orange and white live squid was filmed swimming next to a boat's moorings in Toyama Bay on the west coast of Japan, according to Motherboard. Such large squid live deep underwater and are normally only found dead floating on the surface of the ocean or washed up on beaches, according to Ocean Portal.

I think this is only the 2nd time a giant squid has been recorded alive in the ocean. I saw the first footage on a cable special a couple of years ago. RELEASE THE KRAKEN!

Was the squid filmed close to Fukishima?

One guy jumped in the water next to it?
I don’t think I would do that.

Wasn’t there a scene in the movie “20,000 Leagues under the Sea” with James Mason and Kirk Douglas and Peter Lorre and they encountered a giant squid? I remember watching that movie in junior high in 1981 courtesy of a teacher who brought in his videocassette player (a bit of a deal back then) into class and showed us kids that movie.

ArchiteuthisToo bad Seinfeld missed this word. They could have combined Costanza's architect and marine biologist jokes into one episode.
