My husband and I are on a low-carb diet. I don’t count calories at all.
Today I had an Atkins frozen meatloaf dinner and added frozen broccoli florets with a little butter for breakfast. For lunch I had some sliced chicken breast.
For dinner, we’re having a mostly meat but with some black beans chili, with some yoghurt.
Turns out though you get fuller faster so you don't really eat all that much. I was in Long Island on business last night so I went to a sports bar for dinner. I ordered a 12-ounce ribeye steak with a double side of broccoli. I was full for the rest of the night. In the past, I would get cheeseburger and fries at this place and then I'd go back to the hotel room and snack for the rest of the night because I'd be hungry.
I can keep my net carbs less than 65 grams/day, and still gain weight. Inevitably, it’s the calories. But low carb diets often result in lower calorie counts. I just need to keep things around 1900 kcals/day to maintain.
BTW, I now use a teaspoon of olive oil to fry my egg — an effort to balance the animal fats.
Low-carb diet works for me. Every time.
Hi Trisham, you may want to rethink the beans. The broccoli is fine but starches are very bad and can throw you out of ketosis. Potatoes and beans should be avoided, even carrots are bad.
