A Chicago activist turned down an invitation to meet with President Barack Obama on Thursday prior to the annual White House Black History Month reception.
Aislinn Pulley, who co-founded Black Lives Matter: Chicago, was among about 20 people invited to what the White House billed as an intergenerational meeting of black leaders to discuss criminal justice reform throughout the U.S., according to a White House official.
U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch also was expected to attend the event Thursday afternoon. Other invitees included the Rev. Al Sharpton, NAACP President Cornell Brooks, University of Missouri student organizer DeShaunya Ware and DeRay McKesson, a prominent activist running for mayor of Baltimore.
Pulley has been a fixture in citywide demonstrations condemning police violence against minorities, including regular protests at Chicago Police Board meetings demanding the firing of Detective Dante Servin after the fatal shooting of Rekia Boyd in 2012.
Pulley said Thursday she was not interested in being a part of what she called "a photo opportunity and a 90-second sound bite for the president."

You know, I just wish ONE Republican with balls to just stand up and denounce this crap. Just shout from the rooftops that blacks are getting royally screwed by Democrat leaders and their policies and that this racism has got to stop. Because in the end, it’s going to be blacks who are going to be the biggest losers.
BLM should be advertised as BELT LENGTHS MATTER. That would be a better message for young black males.
I saw a young, thin, black man on the sidewalk yesterday. He was in a hurry. He was walking at a very fast pace - half running. And with one hand under his crotch trying to hold his unbelted pants up. The image was striking. I thought, “Where does he go from here in life?”
May the good Lord bless and guide him.
Blacks have done a terrible job raising some of their young.
