All questions that I cannot answer without an appeal to the existence of God. But I’m a Christian, so I have no problem with that.

I don’t claim to be a scientist, but one major reason people don’t accept evolution on its face is that it denies one of the fundamental laws of biology and that is that something living can only come from something else that is living.

As a Christian, I do agree with much of what the theory purports, but even the Atheist must wonder about how inorganic gasses and materials were able to spring to life all on their own.

I told Gamecock, stick with architecture. He makes a much better fake architect that he does a fake marine biologist. But does he listen? No!

i take the attitude that the Bible was written for the audience of its time.

As in the seven days of creation, followed later in scripture by "With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day." (2 Peter 3:8) To the audience of the time, millions, billions and trillions were unfathomable, but thousands was sufficient to convey the message.

Exactly. If you still have the paper it would be great if you would share it.

I am working on a series of classes for my Church. The Bible 101 deals with the history of where the bible came from. Bible 102 deals with proving the bible via prophecy. and in Bible 103, I am showing how the world attacks the bible and how such attacks are wrong.

I would be interested in reviewing and incorporating some of your materials - full credit for the work of course.

But but but, the article portrays evolution as gospel!

"... a head teacher from a primary school in the UK recently stated that evolution is a theory rather than a fact. This is despite the fact that children in the UK start learning about evolution in Year 6 (ten to 11-year-olds), and have further lessons throughout high school...."

Maybe because evolution is a theory.

Also, what does the age of brainwashing have to do with truth?

Hint: Nothing.

I have always believed what Scripture teaches. I am confident that I am not descended from apes or monkeys but, being reasonable. I am willing to concede that believers in such evolution may well be proving that liberals and evolutionists ARE descended from apes or monkeys. Thus they are of a different species and that explains a lot.

Quote: How long is a day for God?

FWIW, according to Genesis 1:5, before God created the earth, there were no days. He created time along with space and matter all on the first day. And He took 6 days to complete his creation, instead of doing it instantly, so we could have a day of rest. In case you are persuaded that he took billions of years to do what he plainly claimed was 6 days, reckon how plants survived without the sun, or CO2 generating animals, or pollinating insects? And why did He reiterate 6 days in exodus 20:11, the 4th commandment?

Ok.

Did God create that which we now call the laws of physics? Did he abide by those in creation or just make everything work right afterward?

One of the most stunning proofs of gods creation is the beauty and consistency of incredibly complicated and yet simple natures of the universe. Do you realize this universe was set in motion billions of years ago and is perfect to support our existence today against all odds? There is more awe in my mind at creation when you consider God started it billions of years ago with Devine precision and his creation is perfect t in its culmination of us.

If you want to say it was more like a magic trick in the beginning just as genisis lays it out, well then God bless you. For me that cheapens the majesty and wonder of what God is capable of.

Do you believe Jesus physically rose on the third day, or is that more half-truth written for ignorant first century humans? If you can't trust Genesis or Exodus, how can you trust Matthew or Mark?

Either the Bible is infallible, or our ability to determine it's truth is infallible. If you hold to the latter, we can judge for ourselves which parts to take, and which parts to dismiss. Thus, you get Christians so-called agreeing with abortion, homosexual marriage, et al.

Exactly right, God's Creation.

jimmyray: "Do you believe Jesus physically rose on the third day, or is that more half-truth written for ignorant first century humans?
If you can't trust Genesis or Exodus, how can you trust Matthew or Mark?"

What the Bible asserts, clearly and unequivocally, is that God created the natural realm, rules over it and, on occasion, miraculously over-rules its laws.
That is what you must believe, and indeed is what many believers experience in their own lives.
It's what makes us loyal to our Church and larger community, and provides reality necessary to accept on faith biblical accounts of other Divine Interventions.

Therefore, scientific details of how God Created are irrelevant to Faith.
Finally, death is a concept, a perception and fear, denied to lower animals, but doubtless made potential by God's "breath of life" to Adam, a potential fully manifest after our ejection from the Garden of Eden.

alstewartfan: "It's not accepted by many people b/c it's preposterous.
To imagine that the millions of intricacies inside our body came about via modification through descent is downright laughable."

Laugh if you wish, but fossil evidence suggests the first multi-cellular life appeared over 3 billion years ago.
Single-cell Eukaryotes go back nearly 2 billion years, multi-celled a billion and the first animals about 600 million years ago.

So, we are talking about very long periods of time indeed, and slow, slow baby-steps for each advancement.

DPMD: "...relativity hasn't been politicized like evolution has, and hasn't been co-opted to disprove the existence of God.
Actually, the opposite, if one reads some of Einstein's statements on the subject of God."

Actually, like Einstein, Darwin also believed in God, albeit a deistic "clock-maker" God, as some of our Founding Fathers also believed.
As for politicized -- well, there's a genuine laugh, since all the politics around evolution has been inserted by those who refuse to accept it, for religious reasons.

Blood of Tyrants: "If you can believe that living things came from non-living things, you can believe anything."

But the distinctions between biology and organic chemistry are matters of definition, construct and convention.
So where, exactly, does complex chemistry end and simple life begin?
If we look around the natural world today, we can see examples of both, and some seemingly half one, half the other.

That complex organic chemistry can evolve naturally is observable, testable, confirmable and therefore indisputable.
That evolving natural organic chemistry will, under certain circumstances, "complexify" is also demonstrable.

Of course, how, exactly complex chemistry became simple life we don't yet fully know, but nothing discovered so far makes that impossible.

Yes we are--Last I heard, it takes about a million years for each major advancement.

Now, explain to me how non-sexual-reproducing life (multi-cell amoebas) can produce sexually reproducing life, not once, but twice, and in the same neighborhood on the planet, in the same lifespan, and each of the (at least) two then be sexually compatible (not two males, and not two females).

Then explain how that is possible within only 2 billion years--roughly 2,000 advancements.
