Schneiderman: Trump University Fraud 'Pretty Straightforward'

Schneiderman: Trump University Fraud 'Pretty Straightforward' by Chris Isidore @CNNMoney March 4, 2016: New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said that evidence of the fraud perpetrated by Trump University is "pretty straightforward." "It [was] a bait and switch scheme," he said on CNN's New Day Friday, defending his and other lawsuits against the school. "He did ads saying my hand-picked instructors will teach you my personal secrets. You just copy what I did and get rich."

But Schneiderman said evidence in the case makes clear that Trump was not involved in hiring instructors, and that he didn't create the program's curriculum.

"If you tell people we're going to teach you Donald Trump's secrets, and he never had any part in writing the curriculum, that's fraud," Schneiderman said.

Schneiderman said thousands of students paid millions of dollars to the school, which closed in 2010. While the attorney general's suit is a civil suit rather than a criminal action, Trump could face millions in fines, Schneiderman said.

"This is the equivalent of putting up a sign that says Trump Hospital, when it's not, and the people in it aren't nurses and doctors," he said.

Calling it criminal fraud is what is going to get some of these morons in trouble

It may not have been a good school, but was there INTENT to commit fraud?

Or was it a good idea that went bad?

If there is evidence of criminal intent that comes to light in this civil case, you can bet they will then turn around a file charges against the Mouth.

Of course he can try to claim his 5th amendment rights while being cross examined... ;)

Well these guys don’t care about that. It’s the propaganda that they are interested in, for now.

“Trump Vodka” was less of a lie even if it too went broke. The purchaser would at least get drunk on it. Setting up a educational institution, calling it a “university” when nothing is accredited is also part of the fraud. Still, when it comes to fraud, Trump’s got bigger scams planned.

It is a straightforward fraud case.

In marketing material, Trump claimed that he "hand-picked" the so-called "University's" instructors, and that students would learn his secrets to investing in real estate.

Yet, in his deposition, he acknowledged having no role in picking the school's instructors (he didn't even know who they were), and that he had no role in putting together the courses.

In other words, he lied. And he lied in order to induce people into purchasing a product from him. And people purchased that product from him, relying on his lies. And people lost money because of it.

Textbook fraud.

Can't wait for the Attorney General of New York to sue McDonald's for Hamburger University.

No kidding.

Hamburger University. It exists in McDonald's Corporate HQ in Oakbrook, IL. McDonald's employees from across the country (and New York State is still part of the U.S. last time I looked ....) attend it so it's under the NY State Attorney General's jurisdiction to protect NY State residents isn't it?

The NY Attorney General's logic is that Trump University was not an accredited University, it did not have real accredited Professors so therefore it was fraudulent.

Well, what about Hamburger University? A flipping CLOWN teaches people how to flip crappy burgers at a low-grade dog food restaurant. Hamburger University isn't accredited. Surely Ronald McDonald isn't a certified teacher or professor!

Well?! How about it NY State Attorney General ... sic 'em!

That other people commit fraud doesn’t make this any less fraud or the man associated with it any more honest.

This isn’t necessarily going to make people abandon their support for him. But if they support him they should do so with their eyes open.
