The Aquatones - My Treasure

This is a gorgeous song with the soprano voice of Lynne Nixon. This group actually only had a one-hit wonder, "You". Never heard it or them before. I do not remember hearing "You" but I ran across this song today by chance on You Tube. It made me nostalgic thinking of those days of the 50s. This was 1959 and how lovely it was back then. Peaceful, fun times. The country we had, sigh.
Thought it might be fun to see what others had to share.
Peaceful, fun times
Another song from that decade was “Shout!” by the Isley Brothers. Done in full Gospel Choir style with the answering choral groups.
Oh, I remember. Yes, but as a kid in the 50s it was nice. Much nicer than what is now.
Korean War fighting ended by July 1953. Most of the ‘50s were peaceful.
I grew up right across the Potomac from Washington DC. We had regular duck and cover drills in school but we hardly “lived in fear of nuclear war”. That seemed a very remote possibility. The first worry like that didn’t happen until the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.

Large families with one (1) bathroom...oh yeah REAL fun times !
That is what you base your perception of the 50’s on BATHROOMS HAHAHAH, 50’s were the best times in America,
In the 50’s in Iowa we had an OUTHOUSE, You had a BATHROOM HAHAH
Listening :)
Great song, and talent. I’m amazed at the number of groups from that era, when your ability to get exposure depended on a handful of record promoters and key DJs, who didn’t make much of an impact, but were truly talented.
Here’s another one from the same era you might like from the opposite end of the musical spectrum - the rockabilly “Collins Kids”:

We lived with my uncle and his family for a few years then. Five kids, four adults, one bathroom, and the bathroom door wouldn’t lock.
When entering the bathroom, we learned to shout “stay out!”
to ensure, hopefully, privacy.
Didn’t the Brady Bunch have the same layout in their era?
Lol. My stomach hurts!
Gee I don’t know, being a kid today is special. They never lose. They don’t get bullied. Everyone is a special little snowflake.
Five in six years?
A friend’s wife in a similar situation
remarked, “It would be nice to have
a period again.”
Well, depends on what your criteria are, to talk about comparing the ‘50s to today.
Crime rates were lower.
Students learned lessons in school.
Society was more structured around family life.
Bizarre behaviors were not celebrated and mainstreamed.
Many middle class families could buy a house and do well financially on one paycheck.
Those without a college degree could still get into a job or career field and earn a good living.
On the other hand, there were negatives about the old days too.
Pollution was far worse then than now.
Minorities and women didn’t have the opportunities they have now.
Modern medicine can cure or help provide longer and better quality of life for many ailments. Many such medicines and surgeries possible today didn’t exist in the ‘50s.
In those days, larger families tended to be in houses with one bathroom, as others here have noted.
Technology we take for granted, such as cellular phones and the internet, simply didn’t exist yet.
I’m sure others can come up with many many more items.
But, just saying, to talk about the ‘50s or other periods of time, and compare to today, it all depends on your criteria and point of reference as to whether life today is better or worse.
