Modulation of Ice Ages via Precession and Dust-Albedo Feedbacks
Watts Up With That ^ | June 28, 2016 | Ralph Ellis

Posted on 06/28/2016 5:00:32 PM PDT by norwaypinesavage

CO2 is only a bit-player in the drama of world climate, while the main characters are ice, dust and albedo....Ice age cycles have something to do with precession: the slow wobble of the axis of the Earth. The ancient Egyptians and Greeks knew of precession and called it the Great Year, because it gives warm and cool seasons over its approximate 23,000-year cycle. But there is a problem with invoking the Great Year as the regulator of ice ages, because we should really get an interglacial warming every 23,000 years or so. And we don’t – they only happen every fourth or fifth Great Year....A new peer-reviewed theory by an independent researcher may have unlocked this perennial conundrum of paleoclimatology.

CO2 doesn't cause Global Warming, lack of CO2 causes Ice Ages. It's an interesting theory.

There were no congressional hearings or regulatory decisions involved?

Would a precision procession precede a precession?

"And yet all of these theories share one thing in common – they stretch credulity. The only thing that is certain, is that the science is not settled in this area of climate research." All you need to know.

CO2 doesn't cause Global Warming, lack of CO2 causes Ice Ages. It's an interesting theory.

If one examines the CO2/temperature record in the Vostok ice cores, one immediately notices that the temperature rises, AND THEN the CO2 rises, the temperature falls, AND THEN the CO2 falls.

Since the change in CO2 concentration follows the change in temperature, it cannot be causing the change in temperature.

My new theory is that Global Warming causes climate change.

Ocean warming releasing CO2. It’s a lagging indicator.

"the change in CO2 concentration follows the change in temperature"

Ellis' theory explains why the temperatures fall when CO2 is the highest, and why temperatures rise when CO2 is the lowest. This is clearly a situation where CO2 lags temperature.

Not just ocean warming. Surface warming also releases CO2 trapped in the rocks in the earth’s crust.

Thanks BenLurkin. I love the Watts Up website and its work, but there is no working gradualist mechanism for ice ages. OTOH, good topic for the list.
