An Indonesian man who claims to be the longest living human in recorded history has described how he “just wants to die”.

Mbah Gotho, from Sragen in central Java, was born on December 31, 1870, according to the date of birth on his identity card.

Now officials at the local record office say they have finally been able to confirm that remarkable date as genuine.

Interesting post. As I sit here in the living room I’m chatting with my Mom who will be 102 next month. Well chatting would be nice except she has Alzhimers. So I am constantly answering the same questions as she is confused easily. It’s a nasty thing to have.

145. Yeah, right. What a yahoo. My friend works as a nurse in Glendale, CA and told me something interesting. Armenians in their 70’s do not know their ages and lack birth certificates from the old country. Thus, elderly Armenians make up ages like “90” and “100”. Then nurses just get sad with the third world people in Los Angeles.

“My TDI is one of the recalls. I am torn. I really don’t like anything I see on the market.”

I filled out the lawsuit offer from VW today. I recommend you do that ASAP. If you own the car and owned it from the time the news broke in September ‘15 the settlement is pretty decent. My payout is $2550, which I figure is about how much I lost in sales value.

There are many cars out there that are older, but with ten to twenty thousand miles on them. I sold three that belonged to my parents. They were old, but in perfect condition. I’m friends with the guy who bought my Dad’s ten year old Honda and he has since put 200k miles on it.

You don’t have to work on them. Just find a good mechanic by word of mouth. Old luxury Fords are the best buy going, bar none. Lincoln town cars are awesome! Surf Craig’s list.

My buyback is about 23K minus car loan of about 8500.
Or I can keep it and get about 6K perhaps, someday.

Although I like the diesel and hate the thought of dealing with ethanol.

I am just spinning in all directions with this issue.

It's a quality of life issue.

Yeah.

“Although I like the diesel and hate the thought of dealing with ethanol.”

I suspect there is no way you can accept the money and not have the car modified to meet the new standards. It will likely accelerate like and old 220D Mercedes and get much worse fuel economy.

I am hoping ethanol will go away.

You might like an old Mercedes 300TD. I live in Florida, God’s waiting room. Old cars in wonderful condition come up on Craiglist about once every two months. Start shopping. Good luck.

That’s a very interesting turn of phrase that “the world is starting to seem strange”... Would love to see an essay on that!

You’ve never experienced it? Best description I can offer is, it’s sort of like deja vu, familiar but somehow warped. You know it’s just “off” somehow, at times obvious and at other times not so obvious. Remember those old time travel movies, where they unintentionally caused some change and returned to their time to find it different, in sometimes surprising and unpleasant ways? Like that. I guess once you reach a certain age, you actually are a time traveler of a sort. I’m not all that detached, I’m very computer literate, I have and use a smartphone, I like all sorts of music new and old. But, I’ve found myself increasingly ill at ease with what I see in the world at large. Hope that makes some sort of sense, lol.

I remember when my great grandfather was accused by his wife of adultery, and he was in his late 70s. My father’s reaction was “Way to go grandpa!” because it was so darn unlikely, in an age before viagra, though he did work into his 80s as a lawyer.

Don’t give your age around here at FR! We have plenty of nasty ‘ageists’ around here. I hate using that term but some of those guys (and they’re always guys) are nasty.

I’m 71. Anyone older than me is ancient, anyone younger, is just a kid.

Know the gang you're talking about. They mistake lack of knowledge of historical context for being avant garde.

It is great! I recommend everyone here to check it out!

I can relate. I just hit 74 last Monday. The younger FReepers don’t bother me much, unless they display zero knowledge of what transpired before they were born.
