Serving on the U.S. Supreme Court has been both a blessing and a curse and reaching decisions is harder than she ever expected, Justice Sonia Sotomayor said Thursday during a visit to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. [ ]
I never forget that in every case, someone wins, and theres an opposite. Someone loses. And that burden feels very heavy to me, Sotomayor said. I have not anticipated how hard decision-making is on the court. Because of that big win and lose on the court and we are affecting lives across the country and sometimes across the world, Im conscious that what I do will always affect someone. [ ]
She said her experiences as a Hispanic and a woman are only pieces of her thinking when she considers cases. She said she considers herself a human being first and there isnt one piece of me that takes control in judicial decision-making.

a blessing for her
a curse for the rest of us
Nope, just a curse.
She needs to wash her hair. How did we get such dirty, poorly groomed justices.
Poor grooming habits is usually a reflection of a poor mental state.
if it’s such a burden, please step down.
Scalia was a blessing, the porky wise Latina is a curse.
Exactly my thought....
Judge Sonia Sotomayor caught on tape
saying "Court is Where Policy is Made" (2005)
Link to YouTube video of her making the comment:
Indeed. A wise answer to a simple dilemma.
The winner is the American People who have entrusted this Court to preserve, protect, and defend the Consitution. Those who ask the Court to decide otherwise are not losers but simply people who have asked the Court to do that which the Court is not empowered to do.
I'm sickened by Sotomayor's statement, "she still marvels that she holds her position, noting she sits so close to the president at State of the Union addresses she can almost touch him."
The President sits so close to the Supreme Court at the State of the Union adresses that he can almost touch them, a co-equal branch of our government. Sotomayor owes her allegiance to the people of the United States, not Obama or any President. Let's hear what she has to say about this next year.
what is so hard about calling up the DNC to find out what your decision is?
Sotomayor said the hardest moment after Scalias death in February was walking in to hear oral arguments and seeing his seat draped in black. From the end of the article. Seems to me that there is a lot of context here that AP deliberately left out.
Theres a big hole, she said. The courts quieter.
I think some of us have suspected this all along.
What a joke, a divorced rabid liberal fool of a woman complaining when she has a job for life, an easy job that requires no thought on her part except saying no to everyone who does not think like her. FUSS!
Sonia, how about stop thinking of yourself as a Hispanic and a woman, and start thinking of yourself as an American, following the wisdom of our Constitution!
To the American people, her being on the “court” is mainly a curse.
What a wide, pant-load Latina.
