Yep - one of the reasons I went non-denominational - religions pick and choose which parts of the Bible are true and which parts are 'optional" or okay to reinterpret.

The bible doesn’t advise anything unless it’s part of the wish of the character of God. Trying to put together a picture of holiness with a part missing, is inviting to fill the gap with worldly assumptions. Or like God complained, “You thought that I was just like you.”
