Venezuelas embattled socialist government is steadily moving the country toward the abyss, and the escalating crisis is taking on increasingly ominous tones. Venezuelans are caught in a fast-spinning economic spiral that has already devastated living standards and created a large-scale humanitarian crisis. But as Venezuelans take to the streets, so far the government has responded with measures that exacerbate tensions and make a peaceful political solution increasingly difficult.
President Nicolas Maduro, the heir to the late President Hugo Chavez, was elected by popular vote in 2013. But the Venezuelan system of government can no longer be called a democracy.
The crisis in Venezuela has created alarm among the countries neighbors and other observers. Thats why on Monday, under pressure from Pope Francis, Maduro said he had agreed to hold talks with the opposition. But theres faint hope that the talks, if they happen, will produce results.

Venezuela’s 0bama may be in a pot of hot water.
They may be writing the same headline about us in a few weeks.
Venezuala? Democracy? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! etc
As is always the case, the communist think they can live a wonderful utopian life, off other peoples money until the money runs out.
I want ALL the commie a-holes that supported Chaves to suffer greatly. Sure, many non-commies will suffer also but at least they prepared for what was coming.
I hope the same thing happens here in the USA with the liberal filth suffering enormously from Obamacare. Eventually the whole system will collapse (as is happening in Venezuela) and hopefully 50 million democrats will croak within the first 30 days of anarchy. I will be prepared and waiting for the inevitable downfall.

” Thats why on Monday, under pressure from Pope Francis, Maduro said he had agreed to hold talks with the opposition.”
It is Marxists like this pathetic Pope that enables the Maduros and Chavez of the world to gain power.
There is no democracy in Venezuela, and there has not been for years. Hard to see how it could be trampled.
Writers like this idiot burn my chops. “Democracy” and its excesses are what caused this socialistic and progressive dictatorship in the first place.
We even had the blessings and guidance of Jimmy Carter the glowing light of democracy.
There is a reason the founders avoided it and spoke of its destructive powers.
A representative republic — that was our solution.
Should a victorious Trump call for open revolt BEFORE taking office?
I think Trump is wise enough to not comment on another country’s internal affairs off the cuff.
This is the place for a US policy statement developed at-large.
