A Waterloo cabinet manufacturer is taking its more than 800 employees on a company-paid Caribbean cruise to celebrate achieving key goals as it recovers from the recession.

Bertch Cabinet manufacturing co-founder Gary Bertch told his employees earlier this month that the company had met its goals for the year — and they would go on a five day cruise.

Employees depart on Sunday January 8 on one of four charter aircraft flying directly to Miami, where they will spend one night in a five star hotel before boarding the ship.

...Or maybe you’re just more comfortable amongst anti-business liberals?

Nope. The capitalist in me just wants to save enough to pay for his own cruise.

this is what American businessman used to do....

my father worked for a shoe company...not much in the paycheck but the other things...the boss of the entire company would visit the regular workers....the workers had a full walk in clinic for them and their families with drs, nurses, xray, etc and no cost...

the workers always felt appreciated....

I live in Waterloo, Iowa and I know folks who have been on these company paid trips to Hawaii and cruises in the past. NO ONE expects it and no one grouses if it doesn’t happen. It is a gift when it occurs. Turnover is VERY low.

It should be a very good game.

I certainly hope so.

Washington doesn't have the year to year success that Alabama has had over the years, Heck, we last won the National Championship 25 or so years ago.

It's a good match-up, I expect a solid Washington offense facing Alabama's great defense.

No one is giving us much of a chance of an upset, but like you said, it should be a good game.

I'm looking forward to it.

I didn’t write that people would quit.

I said the boss will be sorry he did this.

And he will be.

I’m writing from experience.

For what it’s worth dept.

Cruises had been reward to employees since 1989, but that
hadn’t happened since 2005 because of the recession.

I can guarantee you that there are employees who go home after work and have this conversation with their spouse.

“How much does this cruise cost? For the kind of money they are spending on us, we could remodel the kitchen or make a down payment on a car!”

The boss will be sorry he did this.

He may even do it again next year because bosses tend to be stubborn.

But he’ll regret it.

He’s been doing it and seems to not have had problems or else you’d think he’d quit.
Maybe he’s stubborn but then again it’s his business, his employees and his problem if
it all blows up on him at some point. So far it apparently hasn’t.
