It’s Time to Create a Megacities Combat Unit
Modern War Institute ^ | January 31, 2017 | John Spencer

Every year, more and more of the world’s population moves into cities. The number of megacities is growing exponentially. Both of these global patterns and their inevitable consequences for military operations are well documented. Yet we still do not have units that are even remotely prepared to operate in megacities. If we want to find success on the urban battlefields the US Army will inevitably find itself fighting on in the future, that needs to change.

Fine to create specialized units but the problem does the US public have the stomach for major urban conflict against a determined foe.

Just cut off the food and water and wait.

It is called firebombing.

That takes care of that problem.

And an Ass-ton of Artillery.

But then as you say, you need the political will to do such a thing.

My proposal for a mega-cities combat unit would consist mostly of bombers dropping cluster and MOAB bombs. War is killing, anything else is just putting American men and boys into a meat grinder. Don’t fight a war until you absolutely have to, and then when you fight to WIN.

It is not and never will be time to create a “mega cities” specialized combat unit.

If you have stupid leadership hell bent on preserving some damned collection of buildings rather than just leveling them to preserve the lives of the troops in the field.

The correct answer may be that it is time to create a “rational commander in chief” unit that is authorized to remove a president who issues insane rules of engagement.

Go in to win or don't go.

Starve them or neutron bomb. Dropping buildings creates rubble which makes it even tougher to attack. Stalingrad lesson.

Used to think there was a special place in hell (big cities) for those that used women and children as shields in war. Now the enemy includes women and children . Nuke the bastards.

Watch what the Russians are doing.

If they act up, Artillerize until they get quiet.

Texas has a bill in this session to equip every cop in the state with body armor that will stop 7.62mm as a minimum. I support such as times are changing fast, the threat to all of us is foreign financed , foreign handlers recruiting foreign and domestic actors to promote they’re agendas both in both non violent and extremely violent ways.

Gonna get ugly never goes away . Its a generational threat in my opinion and experience.

Nobody seems to have defined “Megacity”.

Of the current Megacities noted in Wikipedia, the smallest seems to cover over 400 square miles and the largest over 5000 square miles. That’s a lot of fire bombing or artillery. I don’t know how much nuking it would be.

Do like the ancients used to do. Instead of attacking a walled city designed to keep an attacker out, they would build another wall to keep the defenders in. Then starve them out.
Build a wall, cut off water, electricity, gas, telephone, food. See how long they last.

More rubble. Less trouble.
