February is a fundraising month for the DUmmies. Those who donate get to 'gift' hearts to other members. And, the board is full of people who are just so happy and grateful for whoever sent them an anonymous heart.
Just about everybody on the board has hearts now...even the trolls (I've got two!).
Now I barely post there, and when I do I'm generally a jerk who walks a fine line to prevent getting banned. So who is my secret admirer? Who has paid good money to gift little ole me some hearts?
Nobody.
Obviously, the board is randomly gifting people hearts, to trick everyone into thinking all the other members are spending wildly on them. Its just a trick to get people to buy them...a dishonest scam. Instantly obvious to yours truly, but sadly it hasn't crossed any of the Dummy's minds.
Reminds me of the office liberal who was bidding on online 'penny auctions', where he came in second place all the time. I explained to him that since he had to pay to place a bid, he was just bidding against a computer algorithm, and that he would never actually win an auction (and get a new I-Phone for fifteen bucks).
That's why they're called DUmmies.

I’ve visited DU several times. Even signed up once; but was
quickly jettisoned for not using the “F” word enough times,
I reckon. Poorest grammar over at DU & worse groupthink
than any conservative site. They tolerate NO dissent!
It is simply an impossible task to feign that sort of insanity for much longer than that.
also, iirc, they never post their budget, expenses, goal or what they take in, just X# of donors contributed leaves one to wonder who really pays the bills...

They sell pop up ads...and if I recall correctly, their head guy was on the HRC campaign payroll.
