FULL TITLE: Honor student, 17, is struck by freight train and loses both feet after lying down with legs draped over the tracks

A 17-year-old Georgia high school senior has lost both his feet after being struck by a freight train in suburban Atlanta.

Lilburn Police Captain Thomas Bardugon say the victim, identified as Jacob Ohl, was lying alongside the train tracks near Shelly Lane with his feet draped over the rail when he was struck by a northbound CSX train at 1pm Thursday.

It took the locomotive between half a mile and three quarters of a mile to stop after the accident.

He was a what student?

Didn't know you could be an "honor student" without taking Math or Science. It's obvious this "ute" didn't take either.

At least he lived to tell of it, though he'd be a shoo-in for the Darwin Award if he hadn't! (Tasteless, I know, but sometimes the truth ain't PC.)

Perhaps, but unless he is a follower of Shaun King (aka Talcum X), this boy is not one of Obama’s kids.

"What did I just read? "

I don't know what you read but I read:

Horror student...

Then I put on my glasses.

With in 24 hours the dad in this story had a gofundme up for his son. Some in the comment section on Daily Mail’s site find this odd.

I was thinking something similar. Like if he wasn’t a smart kid nobody would care he lost his feet. Stupid article title but not surprising with the JourNOlists now a days.

About 30 years ago I knew a retired train engineer. He began his career with first generation Diesel engines.

I asked him how he felt if he hit anyone. He told me that he lost count of how many cars and people he hit. He was a strong Christian and told me that the reality is that anyone ever hit by a train is at fault. He can’t do anything to prevent the inevitable.

But now we have an entire nation of teenage dumbassery to look at examples of the far, far end of the dumbass bell curve instead of just local stories.

and plays first-chair stand-up bass in the school orchestra.

Maybe he can play the sit-down cello.

Maybe that was the only option he had left to get a full ride academic scholarship. When he submits his life experiences essay for admission it will give him bonus points.

If they were suicidal they would

There is something missing in this story. He tells EMTs he wasn’t trying to hurt himself....that’s not a question that immediately comes to mind when you are trying to keep someone from bleeding out

I don’t think he can be a shoo-in for anything any more; at best, he could be a shin-in.

He learned a lesson in the Law of Consequences of Your Actions.

The father starting a begging site the day afterward is disgusting.

Sorry kid, but you’ll be playing the sit-down bass now I guess. And don’t anyone dare call this a “tragedy”...

Graduation in Atlanta...

Darqueeze played high school football in Atlanta.

He was a great running back, but a really poor student. At graduation, he didn’t have enough credits.

But he was a great football star and the students held a rally and demanded the principal give him a diploma anyway.

They were so insistent that the principal agreed that if Darqueeze could answer one question correctly he would give him a diploma.

The one question test was held in the auditorium and all the students packed the place. It was standing room only.

The principal was on the stage and told him to come up. Diploma in hand, the principal said: “Darqueeze, if you can answer this one question correctly I’ll give you your diploma.”

“Darqueeze how much is three times seven?”

Darqueeze looked up at the ceiling and then down at his shoes, pondering the question.

The other students began chanting, “Graduate him anyway! Graduate him anyway!”

Then Darqueeze held up his hand and the auditorium became silent.
He said, “I think I know the answer.

Three times seven is twenty-one.”

A hush fell over the auditorium and then all the other students began to chant:

“Give him another chance! Give him another chance!

He can’t do anything to prevent the inevitable.

Thanks for experience-related info. Incidents are probably more common than I thought.

Hypothetically speaking, in this age of mobile phones, and given train engineers and police properly trained for such situations, engineer may have time to dial 911 and ask police to try to intercept the idiots before the train does.

Went to high school with a kid who was valedictorian that put his finger in his ping pong fold up table to chop off part of his finger to get out of the draft.
