Casimir Pulaski Day is a holiday observed in Chicago, Illinois on the first Monday of every March in memory of Casimir Pulaski (March 6, 1745 October 11, 1779), a Revolutionary War cavalry officer born in Poland as Kazimierz Michał Władysław Wiktor Pułaski. He is praised for his contributions to the U.S. military in the American Revolution and known as "the father of the American cavalry".
Happy Pulaski Day!
Fun Fact: North of Lincoln Ave, they celebrate Casimir Crawford Day.
There is a memorial to him in Savannah.
We have an intersection in my town right by one of the Polish lodges named after him.
Has a KFC on one corner and a Goodwill on the other. But it’s the thought that counts, I suppose.
Now that I think about it, the memorial is actually his grave.
In 2005 we happen to have been walking by the church in Savannah when a service was been held for him right before his remains were re-interred there.
Until very recent years, it was a statewide holiday.
