Amen! Wish there were a way to vet Yankees headed this way to vote.

Just got back from lunch downtown. Sushi roll and a taco. Our favorite lunch.

Everyone has been trying to get me to Tennessee - and I love that state.

Everything is great.. BUT ... the homeschooling laws.

Not to start another argument, but I’m anti-vaccination. I don’t tolerate, and won’t tolerate, any government or authority body making such requirements.

To teach my kids what I want, and to give them the medical treatment that I believe is appropriate. That’s why I can’t do Tennessee.

But thanks for kicking that in ! My parents are moving to Tennessee at some point, and have urged me to come. I was looking at this corner of Appalachia to be somewhat close to our family is all planning to move.

We’ll be moving far, far away from any friends and family. That’s a big decision. They are all in deep communist Connecticut at the moment - which puts us about 2 hours from them. That’s great to visit on the weekends and the such. From here, we’ll never see this family again unless they move down.

I don’t fly (Cost and TSA) and they don’t drive (Because they live in CT and make a ton of money but they are all flat-broke poor). They don’t even visit us here because they have $2000 a month in bills and can’t afford tires on their car.

It’s crazy. The Northeast is crazy. Flat out. There is no reward in living there. The whole state of CT is like Detroit.

Have your parents settled upon a particular area of TN? Proximity would settle the matter, then. If they’re right up against the Smokies then NC is an obvious choice. If they’re north, then KY might come into play or VA. If south, GA or even northwest Alabama, which is actually quite lovely and Huntsville holds a lot of charm. People have Alabama all wrong, the stereotype just does not apply.

Pardon me, being an NC native when I think mountains I think west, but it would be northeast Alabama.

We were considering Alabama strongly, but the crime rates throughout the state look terrible. Way worse than they should be.

I’ve got a job offer in Birmingham too. Was considering it. I don’t need to really work anymore though, so I’m trying to take advantage of that. My wife and I run our business out of the house, and we don’t need to be anywhere except a place with good internet.

My parents are talking about Johnson City, where I was also sorta made a job offer too.

Johnson City is easily accessible from NC and VA, pretty much right on the border. WV and KY wouldn’t be out of the question if you don’t necessarily need to be right there.

“Amen! Wish there were a way to vet Yankees headed this way to vote.”

Being a Yankee you might not mind having around, there is.

“What’s yer Freepname ?”

“What’s a freepname?”

“Ya’ll like guns ? We like guns” and they will be on the next vegetable powered bus out of town.

Seriously, the one thing that everyone MUST understand about the NE is the “Conservative yankee”. There aren’t many. Truly. If someone says “I think gun ownership is a right.. but” they are true a-holes. Fakers. CT is loaded with them. New York is worse. They think “The right to own and bear arms” means their wood stocked Fudd-gun, but think that no one needs an MP5. Or even what one is.

If your parents settle on Johnson City, and you don’t mind being in the beautiful boonies, sort of close to Boone but not really, I’d recommend Todd, NC.

Don’t know what your budget might be, but this looks like a fine place to raise some kids:

I’m from the South. Asheville is quaint and fun if you dont mind libtard USA. The NC. Mountains outside of Asheville are tribal. You can live there for 30 years and you will still be an outsider. The motto of the NC foothills is that the only virgin in the family is the girl who can out run her brothers. The low country on the coast is nice and the area right across the GA line like Franklin etc is nice.

If we were going to move out of GA we would move to Tenn.

Don’t worry.

My mom’s a western Carolina southern Baptist. They are the definition of political confusion.

Yes! I totally left out the Bible Study. And now that I think about it, that is probably the reason why my mother had so many issues there. See, my dad's work required him to travel constantly, so he was rarely home on the weekends and my mom felt uncomfortable going into a new church where she didn't know anyone, alone with her kids. We tried it a couple of times and I don't think she liked it, so we stopped going. I don't think we ever attempted Bible Study. So that does explain a few things.

And the "Who's yer Daddy?" thing used to drive her crazy. She said she heard it every single time she met one of my father's relatives. When my father's grandmother heard that his fiancee was from Seattle, she told him, "But you cain't marry a ferriner!"

Another thing I remember is being at family events where I didn't know everyone and the older ladies would come up to me and say, "Whose are you?" which is the same as the "Who's yer daddy?" question. One time I told these 2 ladies who my father was, and the one whacked the other one and said, "Of course she's his! Jes' look at them eyes!"

” The NC. Mountains outside of Asheville are tribal. You can live there for 30 years and you will still be an outsider. “

It’s changed a bit in the past 30 years. Mountain folk are family oriented. If you don’t marry into one the exclusion exists.

But there has been enough dilution of culture by new people moving in that a new social order is evolving; more so in some places and less so in others.
