That’s a good question. I think Trump prefers not to impeach because it would take away what little spotlight there is on other so “investigations” of Hitlery, Abedin, et al.

I think you need to understand that the FBI director is “an at will employee of the Executive Branch,” and as such can be fired by the President. He can also be removed by the Congress through the impeachment process. He is only the FBI Director today because Trump has decided, at least for the time being, that he should remain. His ten year appointment doesn’t mean he cannot be removed by either the President or the Congress, and in the case of the President, no cause has to be made for his dismissal. If you doubt this, I suggest you go look it up just like I did just now.

No, he just did what he or any other President could do if he chooses to do so. There is no precedent needing to be set here.

Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t see Trump not just canning the guy. I would think that he would view the congressional impeachment route as a big waste of time for a body he needs to get a lot of legislation through. Secondly, impeachment would involve proving some sort of charge, whereas in firing Comey , he just has to say “out you go,” no reason need be given.

You don’t get what he was communicating. He said that he could not speak of it because HEARING WHO IT WAS FROM WAS CLASSIFIED. IOW, THE PRESIDENT. Everything the president says in private or communicates is classified unless specifically released. So what Comey was saying, telegraphically, was the origin of that email was 0bama. IOW, a crime was committed by the president at the time. 0bama. He directed Lynch to “not go too far.”

Presidents can only fire FBI directors for incompetence—i.e., the FBI director failed to obtain and keep adequate blackmail files on the President. :-)
