Any ideas why?

Not to be crude, but you've been on FR for a while, and you don't know that he has a ten year appointment that has nothing to do with Trump?

Really?

Maybe Comey knows something ‘un-good’ about The Donald, and has hinted that if he is fired the undiscussed data will be released to either the press or the Clintons, but I repeat myself.

Even though I trust Trump enough to vote for him, it’s not inconceivable that a boastful Billionaire from a Nouveau Riche family with business ventures around the world may have connections to something he would not want printed on Huff-Po, or even the Drudge Report. Or, one of his children may have such a shadow around them. A shadow, as yet undiscussed in the court of public opinion.

dp0622, I think that is a fair question after all.

While FBI directors are appointed for 10-year terms, they can be fired earlier. In 1993 Bill Clinton dismissed FBI Director William Sessions. Sessions had been the FBI Director for a little more than 5 years.

The trick - as far as the President is concerned - is to come up with a plausible reason for the firing.

Because Comey is keeping the Russia investigation going as cover and it will look bad firing Comey. But what’s really happened here is Comey and the whole Obama team are caught spying on their American political opponents.

"Any ideas why?"

So he can hang himself? Catherine Herridge of Fox News reported that Comey is being investigated by the IG's Office for the way the FBI handled the Clinton Email investigation. She said Comey has admitted to having been interviewed by the IG's Office. Time will tell.

There is no statutory restriction on a president who wishes to fire an FBI Director. The president is quite entitled to do so, and of course should their be wrong doing by an FBI Director that a president still wanted to keep then the Congress can elect to impeach that director, in spite of his favor with a president.

It’s a popular question. Just googling “can the FBI ..” and see what happens. Google finished my inquiry for me. LOL!
“... be fired”.

Clinton fired William Sessions, but Sessions refused to resign. Janet Reno, acting as AG for the president is the one who actually fired him.

It’s easy to find answers on Google when you get scolded for wondering what everyone in the nation is wondering. ha.

I do wonder just why it is Trump keeps him on, unless he wants to see if Congress impeaches him in a bipartisan action?

Comedy is serving a ten year term. In his words, you’re stuck with me. He would have to be found in gross violation of his office and it would still be hard to get rid of him.

He has info on enough Republican zenators to flip control to Democrats.

After all, he data mines NSA data at will.

Just following in the footsteps of past FBI directors.
