Trump kept Comey on. Any ideas why?

Not to be crude, but you've been on FR for a while, and you don't know that he has a ten year appointment that has nothing to do with Trump?

Really?

Not being rude at all.

I had no idea.

I apologize.

You might be shocked how many here don’t know that.

BTW, if that was crude to you, you don’t know many bad words :)

presidents can fire FBI directors at their discretion if the director breaks confidence- there’s a term for it that i can’t remember right now- something about ethics violations but comey fits the bill and trump can fire him as a result- president bill clinton fired his director of FBI sessions

Not to be crude, but the 10 year appointment is a MAXIMUM time he may serve. It is not a “term” per se. He can be fired like any other political appointee for any reason, or even none at all. He has zero job protection.

It was put in to prevent another J Edgar Hoover.

Well honestly. He is the president. He can ask for a resignation. Or can he not ask for an underlings resignation.

Regardless of how much time is left. Otherwise Comey is untouchable by his superior for anything?

I didn’t know that either, never heard of any FBI director having a 10 year appointment, what is your source and why doesn’t he serve at the pleasure? I have been on FR forever.

AND you have been of FR for how long and you did not know that PRESIDENT Trump could have had Comey shit canned any time he wanted to? Appointments (except for USSC Justices) can be reversed by the President at any time and does NOT require a resignation.

To answer your question dp0622, I think he knows Comey has the goods on the previous admin and the old saying "keep your friends close and your enemies closer" may apply. I would like to see the man charged right along with Cankles, Huma and Obama for conspiracy and treason. However, I believe if President Trump could push Comey into cutting a deal. He is small fish.
