At ten bucks and change a month, and a selection worthy of many nights’ viewing, coupled with the modern technology of WIFI and SMART TV’s .... WHY would anyone pay a hundred bucks plus for a million channels you’ll never watch ?

You know, YouTube offered 3 months free of YouTube Red and I must say, I really like it. It’s a little more expensive than Netflix, and the quality isn’t always there, but it really good.

I’ve had satellite for many years and I can’t wait to drop it. There is almost zero value in it anymore. Out of something like 290 channels, 250 are infomercial channels or QVC types. The other channels occasionally run something semi-interesting... if you can wade through 22 minutes of commercials per hour of programing. Me? No thanks.

We must protect the internet from the teachers' union(s) EVERYTHING can be learned from a youtube video.

There isn't a backyard mechanic in FR that HASN'T hit youtube at least once to learn how to get at that tie rod end or change bicycle brake cables or determine what that fault code meant ... or even how to FIND it using the ignition key.

I've seen a torn meniscus repaired, a scoliosis spine straightened and a baby born on the med channels.

The brick and mortar schools are on their way out.

Two reasons.

One - Netflix has more to offer.

Two - Netflix allows one to set a streaming quality level (I have my Netflix set a 0.7 Gigs per hour). Hulu, Prime, and others do not allow you to adjust the quality.

I have a limit on what we can download in a month, and days where Hulu or Prime are watched are more than double, to nearly triple (from 1.8 to 2.3 gigs per hour) the data streamed than what Netflix is for the same amount of time watched. I've tested Hulu and Prime and both are over 2 gigs per hour. On a limited data plan, that makes a big difference.

LOL. I use YouTube a lot for that. Just yesterday I watched, learned, and then constructed and hung house gutters on my shed. Total DYI. Also, sort of unbelievable for a guy like me, but I never knew exactly how to use a pop riveter. Bought one for my project and then watched a simple video. Done.

Sort of afraid YouTube is going to replace me as a father teaching my sons.

I hate Netflix. I have a zero percent success rate in finding the movies I’d like to watch over say a five-year period. But the family likes it.

Professor youtube has been a great teacher and refresher.

Nobody watches my boring stuff. I can’t say I blame anyone.

When we cut the cord for a year or so we found Netflix by far the worst service out there.

Agreed. It is very frustrating trying to figure out what one can watch for free.

Some of the thing which need a repair job we not yet around when father taught son.

We had just purchased a new microwave, sparking a few weeks later and terrified to use it. You Tube had all that one would ask. Not only what the problem might be but how to repair the problem. Part needed - search Google for local retailer/distributor and all was once again peaceful on the homefront. Certainly beat the cost of a new microwave, and (if you should be so lucky to find one, a repair center).

DH made a over the air antenna to pick up a number of local/near local stations. Pole, copper wire and we were in business. Repair refrigerators, cars. Everyone is an ‘expert’

You got me. We need more threads about streaming here to help people get on board.

We watch mostly amazon and are prime members.

I just go online and put in the watchlist what I want to be there and then it is there when I want to watch.

Last night I watched RT, Foxbusiness, Reuters, WSJ, and a few other news channels for free. Sky news...

There is just no excuse to not be streaming if you are already paying for internet.

My older boys (8 and 6) watch nothing but YouTube. Nothing.

For my wife and I together, it's mostly Netflix and HBO GO, Amazon from time to time and Xfinity On Demand. I haven't tried Hulu. My wife watches her Russian programming on Kartina TV.

We never watch programming when it airs (unless it's the Super Bowl).

They have some decent original series depending on your taste. We just finished the first season of Travlers (sci-fi time traveler stuff), Santa Clarita Diet (comedy Zombies), The Fall (crime-serial murder), The Killing (crime-serial murder) which they picked up and added a final season after it was canceled by AMC or FX.

And some of their original movies are good too. I just hate it that they lump everything in together even though they have all these different genres it seems they all overlap.

I am hoping for them to start streaming new release movies instead of watching them on DVD.

I just bought a Sony smart 4K Tv. The remote actually has a button on it for Netflix! (and googleplay, too). LOL

Netflix is starting to annoy me. Every time they tell me some new show is available I click on it and it is foreign with either subtitles or badly dubbed English. I didn’t sign up to netflix to watch crappy foreign media.

Why pay for channels I don’t watch? Because, football.
If it were not for NFL Sunday Ticket, cutting the cord
might be a consideration.
