Looks like Responsibility2nd posted a few minutes ahead of you with the moon joke. I'd say great minds think alike but somehow that does not quite work for me.

No TV or radio in my rural Alaska hometown. I read about it a few days later when the newspaper arrived on the next flight.

“We should have had Moon Bases by now with colonies ready for independence”
and flying cars. No, wait. I mean DRIVERLESS cars.

What a cool ride that was! Not to veer too far off from that picture but I was actually on vacation during Apollo 13. I briefly remember glancing at an Apollo 13 headline on a newspaper in its display box. I had no idea of the drama that happened until watching the
movie of the event. NASA succeeded in making these historic flights into something boring and mundane. Just demonstrates that the only way a Government program ever dies is in the unlikely event it succeeds in its mission.

Just noticed I had a bad link.
Here is the correct place. One small screwup in HTML as well!

At this time we should be having moon bases, a manned mission to Mars, etc. At least that’s what I thought would turn out when I was in high school at the time. Instead, in the seventies I saw navel gazing and heavy head trip bovine scat.

...Man, those were happier times. The Soviet Union was trying just as hard to get to the moon first but after they failed they pretended they were not trying. I'm happier knowing that Reagan succeeded in making the USSR collapse than having that monstrous evil empire still around.

I was around 28-29 years old when Armstrong/Aldrin landed on the moon. I thought it was the greatest thing I had ever seen. I was always interested in all of the moon landings. The little moon buggy still fascinates me.
