A "Kleagle" is an officer of the Ku Klux Klan whose main role is to recruit new members. He didn’t just go to a couple of meetings. He continued as a recruiter for the KKK for years, and formed his own chapter in 1943, advancing to the level of Exalted Cyclops. He was still writing about the ‘vital need’ for the Klan in 1946.
Senator Byrd opposed every civil rights movement. Senator Byrd filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1965. He voted against both Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Thomas.
Robert Byrd wrote to segregationist Mississippi Senator Theodore Bilbo, 1944, ‘I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side. Sooner or later they'll get around to it.
Especially now that West Virgina's become a Republican state and the Byrd name (which wasn't his to begin with) doesn't carry any weight anymore.
When we travelled around W VA some time ago, smack dab in the middle of beautiful downtown Lewisberg is an abort-o-mat, the Sen Rob’t Byrd Women’s Health Center. HMM, an abortion mill named for a klansmen, actually it’s quite appropriate considering Margaret Sanger’s racist attitudes. And this WAS before he croaked.
Yes, time to rename those buildings. What about US Navy ships named after avowed racists and others?
No, Byrd was a successful Democrat.

As Howie Carr mentioned this afternoon, Cokey Roberts was on ABC yesterday spouting hate-Trump outrage because he didn’t respond to Charlottesville in the way she liked and because he used “dog-whistles” to signal southerners that he approved of racism - as Carr pointed out, Roberts is the daughter of former congressman from Louisiana, Hale Boggs, who was a strong segregationist and probably a dog whistle racist himself - Carr wondered if Roberts would denounce Boggs the way Trump has been urged to denounce David Duke et al - how ‘bout it, Cokey?.....

Well, have to admit this subject has me pretty perturbed - enough to get distracted....Sorry for dup post...didn’t look like the first one went through.
Just think - ships, streets, monuments, schools; endless list to go through. One monument lost honoring a member of the North or the South in the Civil War and one of their prizes will be torn down or renamed....
And people who reside in blocks A through G can only visit Park 11. /sarc
On the flip side, once all the history about the evil slave owners is erased, then slavery itself will never have happened....
