So? You are saying that “common sense” tells you that hitting people is the way to build a relationship, build trust, and teach love?
I presume that you apply this “common sense” with people your own size, right?
I used to get spanked by my mom and beat by my grade school teachers. As a father, I never liked what spanking my son, did to my personal relationship with him, along with myself getting more angry every time another spanking was required. By the time my son was 5, my wife decided that counting him down(3,2,1) with a threat of taking personal property or a cherished freedom away, was a better way. My son is going to graduate from High School this year and still cherishes his personal property and freedom over decisions that could cost him either. Thanks to my wife and my ability to follow her idea(s), I think we created a fine young Conservative.

There is a BARELY DISCERNIBLE difference in the negative effects of spanking and beatings.

You lower your child’s use of their potential when you let fail to instill discipline. A smart kid acting out is a retarded child.
Spanking is considered child abuse, around here its called and “Attitude Adjustment”. Avoids jail time.

Yeah, I've noticed a bit of correlation between anti-spanking and dissatisfaction with the way someone was raised. They can't conceive of it as anything else but furthering abuse...whereas most of us from a loving home understand it was not abuse but *correction of a specific behavior*.

Whether you personally were spanked or not is likely irrelevant, but whatever happened in the past, you are now incapable of discerning what’s true or not.

I think it’s good. My two sons were spanked and they were never a discipline problem growing up. Now they are both young adults, on their own, and self-sufficient. Whereas a great number of their un-spanked peers are still living at home and are by and large spoiled brats that bring their parents a lot of misery. My father spanked me and I likewise was self-sufficient at early age and never a discipline problem growing up.
I don’t think the actions of one person shows anyone is wrong, since there are so many variables! I was not only spanked, but switched as well....drugs have never appealed to me, nor alcohol. My IQ is very high.. yet that does not prove discipline had anything to do with it, again too many variables
So addiction has it’s own source, usually a spirit of addiction, and if left unattended will cause death!
