The smug assertion of conventional wisdom, flying in the face of scientific evidence, is typical of the irrationality of those who choose not to think about an issue.

The notion that there is a clear distinction between spanking and beating is contradicted by the data. Spanking is only slightly less damaging than beating.

The first big push against spanking came with Dr. Spock, whose book was published in 1946. That generation grew up to be the first big time aborters. When the presentation (I only skimmed it after the first third or so) calls the evidence the "best kept secret in American psychology" or some such, I did a double-take as these assertions have been repeated for half of century, and I heard them throughout my own childhood decades ago. There was a high-profile movement to outlaw spanking in Massachusetts and Oklahoma felt obliged to pass a law affirming the right of parents to spank.

Those of us here on FR are not likely to assume that this consensus of studies were honestly done without access to the actual procedures and measurements, as we have have been subjected to similar statements on "global warming" and the benignity of perverted behaviors.

It is well-documented that the Kinsey study was fraudulent, and so was Margaret Mead's anthropology. Science is only good on those things that lend themselves to the scientific method and is measured by those those who are honest in their studies. The leftist infiltration of the social sciences over the last three-quarters of a century casts doubt on a whole lot of research.

Actually, I have thought about it. And anybody who doesn't know the difference between spanking and beating should most certainly not spank his children.
