I had this problem with a flip phone about a year ago, never resolved the problem, and ended up getting a better phone from a different carrier.

There are several ways to set do not disturb, night, and other modes both on the phones in with sometimes directly with your carriers, when you log in. One of those may have been set at]nd now causing you headaches. Go to store for carrier.

It is a problem in the blue tooth stack***. There is a bug. Reboot your phone when you leave your car. Problem solved.

(*** Network protocols stack up. You have to depend on other people (Companies) to provide an interface. Some programmer screwed up and isn’t clearing the connection to a lower level in the stack to allow it to reset.)

I made the mistake of using a bluetooth hands-free device. I would get home, forget to manually disconnect, and then miss calls. Now our laws are so draconian I’ve developed the habit to just leave the phone in my pocket - zero calls on the road.

My question to your question is - do you know if the bluetooth is actually shuttling the audio from your calls to the remote device? Can you get someone to sit in the vehicle and verify that it isn’t intercepting the calls whan you think you’re disconnected?

Try turning off Bluetooth for a few days and see if the problem disappears (this is not a fix, just troubleshooting).

As with all cell phones I’ve ever had their software gets screwed up after a while. It then needs to be reset. You reset the phone by powering down and restarting it. That should reset the software to run properly again.

I bet you’ve already tried that but there’s my 2 cents worth.

Did you call your cell phone connection provider? I think they can reset your phone’s connection remotely and fix the problem.

A similar problem happened to a friend and this is how it got corrected. That was AT&T.

Good luck.

“Every once in a while my cell phone goes into a state where it will not answer calls.”

Is it a male phone...or a female phone? If it’s a female phone, that could explain a lot.

Others here will wail when they read this but “flip phones” are junk. I suggest you join the 21st Century and switch it out for a smartphone running either iOS or Android.

Blue-tooth is a known attack vector for hacking mobile phones. It should be turned OFF unless in use.

I would suspect a weak battery.

Beyond that, it could be something with the carrier or something with the phone.

If you have a carrier store close by, you might see if they have a way of checking it out.

I think you solved your own problem. Some times my phone has thought it was still on headphones when it was not. Make an appt with the apple Genius Bar which is now 50% of the store, and have them check it.

Had an old phone with a master reset option in some menu. Kinda scary. You’ll probably lose the contact list but it’s worth a try.

Reboot it once a week - most problems occur after long periods (where updates occur) and never rebooting.
