Dozens Believed to Remain Inside Collapsed Office Building 3 Days After Deadly Mexico Earthquake
KTLA ^ | 01:46PM, September 22, 2017 | Christina Pascucci and CNN Wire

Relatives estimate up to 50 people were in the building along Avenida Alvaro Obregon in west-central Mexico City when the quake hit Tuesday. Family members have waited nearby ever since -- some of them staying overnight in tents -- monitoring the search and hoping for the best.

Similar scenes have been playing out across central Mexico as volunteers joined trained search and rescue workers to try to reach possible survivors and clear rubble, days after the quake that officials say killed at least 286 people.

Navarro, who believes his brother, Jesus, was in the building at Avenida Alvaro Obregon, said rescuers told relatives that they haven't made contact with anyone inside, and they're approaching the site cautiously.

...

In all, 148 deaths were reported in Mexico City, one of North America's most populous metropolises with more than 21 million people. Elsewhere, 73 deaths were reported in Morelos state, 45 in Puebla state, 13 in the state of Mexico, six in Guerrero state and one in Oaxaca state.

That’s one of the dumbest AND most ironic comments I’ve ever read on FR. You need to learn the difference between “ethnicity” and “nationality”.

Would you agree that the residents of the country of Mexico are Mexicans?

Would you agree that the residents of the country of Mexico have unsound building practices?

If you answer yes to either of those questions does it make you a loony tune conservative?

No, I'm making a comment on their workmanship and technological prowess. Where do you see me making a comment on their ethnicity. If anyone is, it's you who connected "cardboard houses" with ethnicity. You are awfully quick to throw down the race card.

It's people like you who make it hard to have realistic discussions in this world. You should move to Canada or Europe where they have hate-speech laws.

I am following the news from one city in Morelos state that I am familiar with. They have no water, no electricity, no gasoline, and no shelter. It is as hot a tousands hells and they can’t bathe. The devastation is unbelievable. They also have no more jobs to go and thus no income. It is a real tragedy.

Those zany Mexicans and their cardboard buildings.

I've heard that Mexican houses often have more solid construction than the typical US frame house. In comparison with the story of the Three Little Pigs, the typical US house would be the house built of sticks.

And I've heard that Hillary is a nice person and that it only takes three licks to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop. So what is your point? Many people believe in fairy tales and bigfoot.

What you're saying is patently ridilous. Stop trolling me. That's like saying the English healthcare system is superior to ours. Can you get any more ridiculous?

As a general rule, construction in Mexico is shoddy at best. If you think there may be corruption in American building in order to by-pass building codes, and there is some of that I'm sure (I watched the Sopranos) Imagine how it is in Mexico given their culturally inherent corruption and the fact that they (probably) have little to no government enforced building codes. Then look at every picture you can find of Mexican cities and villages.

And if that still doesn't do it for you, lets you and me take a road trip to Mexico and take a tour of their buildings and homes.

I think you will change your three little piggy scenario to:

Mexico: Straw house.

USA: Brick house.

I'll go you one further, though I could be wrong. The USA probably has the overall most solidly constructed structures in the history of the world.

This does not take into account Humblegummer's trailer house, of course. There always exceptions to every rule.

I wonder that they haven’t been rescued and moved into a temporary shelter. People can’t live like that :(

Two massive hurricanes and we need another turn? On the bright side, recovery here in the states is going smoothly, despite the suffering involved in such losses.

Smooth enough you barely hear of anything being reported in the LSM.

Who made a joke about the dead, you pompous ass?

I made a barbed comment about Mexican culture. A culture which lead to the deaths of innocent people. Don't come at me with your self-righteous ass with a tin cup in your hand demanding a sacrifice. And don't presume that you are an authority or have the moral standing to pronounce who should or should not be on which site. How dare you call me an idiot.

Pompous, self-righteous, arrogant, Mrs. Kravitz actin' ass.

You have upset me.
