SUNRISE, Fla -- Tampa Bay Lightning forward J.T. Brown raised his right fist during the playing of the national anthem before the team's first road game of the season.
It is the first known demonstration of any kind during the anthem in an NHL regular-season game. The NHL has no rules governing what players must do during the national anthem.

I wonder if he does that during the Canadian National Anthem? Or does he stand there respectfully?
He stood and raised his fist in disrespect.
I was there, nobody even noticed this douchebag.
The crowd was passing around a giant American flag and singing the anthem along with the girl on the ice.
Had a great color guard, one of the most patriotic crowds I have ever seen.
The game was great too, lots of action, scoring, fistfights,
and a climactic finish as the Panthers fought off a 6 on 4 power play to win 5-4.
The douchebags father is ex NFL and this LOSER wouldn’t even be in the league collecting his 1.25 million if he wasn’t black.
J.T> is a jerk!
The Lightning issued a statement later Saturday, saying,
“The Tampa Bay Lightning celebrate the moment before every game when we can unite as a community, paying homage to a flag that is representative of our nation and those who have sacrificed. At the same time, we respect our players and individual choices they may make on social and political issues.
......
So now we know where The Lightning stand. Waiting for the NHL...
I’m not a mind reader. I don’t know what the heck that maroon was thinking. But his action is detrimental to his team and his league. The NHL should have had a plan in place to deal with this eventuality. Or maybe they do and just don’t have the guts to use it. Gutless wonders.
Team needs to send a message ... Healthy scratch for the next 7-10 games and send him down to the minors and bring up a player that wants to keep politics OFF the ice.
Would keep the rest of the pseudo activist punks in line.
This guy is a mediocre 4th line (i.e. last line) with the Lightening. Likely thinks that making a political statement will make Tampa hesitate before sending him down to the minors. Time for Tampa and the NHL to take out the trash.
Brown is the son of former National Football League (NFL) running back Ted Brown, who played eight NFL seasons (19791986) for the Minnesota Vikings. In an interview, Brown gave credit to his father for having played a vital role in being able to push his game to new heights.
Wow. Gutlessness all ‘round.
Somebody is going to nail him against the boards, and they’ll get a standing ovation from the crowd when he does.
My suggested response: tell these dumba$$es to do it on their own time, dime, and property.
it rhymes with?.....HA!
Just a bunch of childish politicians/racists running around for fifteen minutes for a multi-million dollar paycheck.
He may get “Raidered” ifhe continues
Whoops, read that too fast - thought it was NFL not NHL. If the moderator would kindly remove that post I would be most grateful.
Tampa Bay Lightning Ice hockey team - - seems they're competing with the NFL for "least liked: ....
"Shock poll: NFL now least liked sport, core fans down "31%

Yeah me and the family enjoy MLB, but only so long as it stays just baseball. Start putting politics and liberalism in there and we could drop it in an instant. It’s very fun the way it is, but once it stops being ‘very’ fun, there are other time and money alternatives. NFL & NBA doesn’t understand this, and maybe NHL.
