SUNRISE, Fla -- Tampa Bay Lightning forward J.T. Brown raised his right fist during the playing of the national anthem before the team's first road game of the season.
It is the first known demonstration of any kind during the anthem in an NHL regular-season game. The NHL has no rules governing what players must do during the national anthem.

After Subban said he would not kneel during the anthem (and yes I know he’s Canadian) I had hoped that would set the tone. Yes, the number of blacks in the NHL is miniscule compared to the NFL. Regardless of sport, it’s frustrating.
I agree. I don’t think the main team spectator sports have any oasis in all this but hopefully in the case of the NHL this will be all that happens. The NHL is the weakest monetarily of the team sports by far and they have little margin for errors like this.
