So many facts, and legitimate questions. I wonder if anyone from Moore’s attorney’s camp checks out FR. I may be giving too much credit to FReepers’ collective observations about this, but it was a FReeper who outed Dan “Superscript” Rather. You just never know what would be the thing that turns the tide.

I suppose most of this exists on Twitter, too, which everyone keeps up with (except me).

“I got so torqued off I turned the channel.”

Ditto for me. When Judge Jeanine went on her rant before knowing true evidence, that’s when I turned the channel. I went to Investigation Discovery — a much more uplifting station dealing with less disturbing issues like murder and rape.

BTW, today another FReeper posted a link to an article of Jeanine proudly marching in a gay rights parade a few years ago. I’m going to have to re-think some things after knowing that.

Judge Moore has been Herman Cained!

...and "Clarence Thomased".

A political "lynching".

It was someone on CNN's Twitter feed who noticed the different color ink in the yearbook signature.

I don’t believe the accusations, but he as much as admitted he dated teenagers in his early thirties, which is unfortunate. Even though it was not uncommon, especially in most of our history, I wouldn’t want my daughters that age dating a man that old. A lot of girls that age are still airheads, and unless they share religious or political views, teenagers don’t have much in common with thirty year olds. But if I lived in Alabama, I would certainly vote for him, regardless.

“That “Ray” Moore really hasn’t done this, or has feebly done so on Hannity, bothers me.“

Funny, I’ve seen him forcefully denounce these false accusations numerous times. And I haven’t been going out of my way to find them.

Strom Thurmond married a 22 yr old at 66 and had 4 kids. Before that he married a 20 yr old at 44 and had a kid by a 16 yr old at 22. Ole Roy will be right at home in the Senate.

Yes, I am very disjointed in Judge Jeanine, she knows hearsay when she sees it and that what most of the supporters are offering. Add the very strange incriminating yearbook, which in my view is a doctored item which would be subject to discovery in a court of law.

And to those who would remind me that this is not a court, I believe nevertheless that the rules of court should be observed. I know the earliest adjudication will be the election.

The earliest “adjudication” will be the election, but unless Moore prevails there - and is seated - I would assume that there will be a literal adjudication in court because Moore sues. And I hope he sues the socks off of Jeff Bezos.

Hannity has been a staunch defender of Moore.

This IS a sad, new turn, if true.

Putting $$$$ over truth??

I guess we’ll see, but I hope it’s not the case.

“Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.”

Thanks. I stand corrected. Maybe Newt meant that the accusations so far would not be sufficient for expulsion. Furthermore, the alleged behavior occurred 40 years ago.

Now that the Democrats and most Republicans have set the standard for serving in the Senate, are they not obligated to have their pasts investigated with the same intensity. We wouldn’t want any of them to be throwing stones when they might have a tainted history, no matter how long ago.

A lot of girls that age are still airhead...

We're talking about 1977, when schools still taught traditional education. I graduated high school in the south in 1977.

Remember, back in 1977, the Vietnam War ended only five years earlier. Etowah County had the fourth largest casualty rate in Alabama. The OPEC oil embargo happened only four years earlier. Richard Nixon resigned only three years earlier. SNL debuted two years earlier. Jimmy Carter was elected the year before.

Girls (and boys) back then were a lot more tuned in to things than high schoolers today.

That said, I have little doubt that Moore dated teens when he was in his thirties. - cornfedcowboy
Personally I find that thought rather creepy. But it does appear to be a "thing" in some pockets in the South. I had a former colleague who spent some time stationed in a remote area of Kentucky, and he says all of the very young women there were throwing themselves at much older men.

He said the wedding of the season in that town was between the 18-year old star of the high-school basketball team and her 41-year old coach. My friend begged his then-employer for a transfer as he was 40, divorced, and had no desire to fend off hordes of teenagers.

IMHO it is a matter of perspective and culture. Time was, women were heavily discriminated against in the employment arena; opportunities for women were housewife, housewife, teacher, housewife - or nurse. And they had to struggle to get to where nursing was a profession for women. And time was, FTM, when men were farmers, or farmers, or . . .

Both housewife and farmer were occupations which girls and boys, respectively, routinely learned by doing under the mentorship of their mothers and fathers. If as a girl growing up in relative isolation in some hamlet in the hills those seem to be the realistic prospects, "setting her cap for" a well-established - hence older - man might seem to be her main chance. No highfalutin edumacashun necessary - just know how to keep a household the way Mamma did/does, and look your best (and in any case you likely will never look much better), and go for it. Until opportunities opened up for women, and unions drove up teachers’ salaries . . .

In America men have not typically been a lot older than their brides because young men have had opportunities, and the ability to hold down a job made you marriageable. In the Old World, not so much. For example in Ireland, men didn’t become marriageable until they inherited their fathers’ farms - and presto, the women - of whatever age - wanted them then.. So when you finally did become able to support a family, the field was wide open, including younger women. But before then, you were functionally an adolescent boy - hence, “the fighting Irish.”

And as to the objection that a youngish teen wife would be immature, women generally were considered immature. At least, they were discriminated against employment wise as if they were. In living memory, women were not allowed to open accounts with stock brokers (let alone be stock brokers).

Smells bad—Now it looks like the yearbook signature is fake as well. He better watch out—next step is a bullet. That’s how the Democrats work—win by hook or by crook.

I had young children in the 70’s and early 80’s. If they could have had the type of education we had in the mid fifties and sixties, there wouldn’t be so many airheads of both sexes. I shudder to think what kids are being indoctrinated with, nowadays. I worry about my grandkids.
