I can echo support for the Ketogenic diet. I was pre-diabetic (6.2 A1C) and had cholesterol issues. >200 total cholesterol and LDL over 100. I went on a vegetarian ketogenic (a.k.a. low carb) diet.
A1C is now 5.0. My cholesterol is 140 and LDL is less than 70. It took three months to reverse. I also walk 10k - 15k steps per day. If you have an iPhone, you have a pedometer in the Health app.
It’s not official science yet, but they appear to have type ii figured out. It’s caused by interrupting the fat storage cycle by consuming fast carbs through snacking. This leads to fat blockages in cells limiting insulin absorption. The solution to the problem is weight loss and not spiking blood sugar through snacking, this causes the fat blockages to dissipate. Low carb diets are quite good in this reguard.
