I don't know what these are but they are installed every couple of miles around here. It is a big deal because an entirely new utility pole has to be installed which is at least 10 feet higher than the others.

Each meter has it’s own ip address. That is a wireless transceiver to send and receive data to and from your meters and control relay inside.

It is called a 'keg' meter. And yes, it is a data collector for 'smart meter'. Really, that's all it is.

Please don't fret over it. You are probably being converted to smart meters for all your water, electric, and gas very soon. Different companies have different styles and as technology advances they will look similar, but different.

Just a guess: a microphone. Several of them alert authorities if there is a gun shot and then, after some triangulation, a location is determined. Drones can quickly investigate.
