Jimmy Kimmel held his baby son as he returned to his late-night show after a week off for the boy’s heart surgery.
Kimmel was crying from the first moment of his monologue Monday night as he pleaded with Congress to restore and improve children’s health coverage, a cause he has championed since his son Billy was born with a heart defect in April.

To his credit, Glenn Kessler, the fact-checker at WaPo, went through Kimmel’s screed and pointed out all the ways in which it’s a pile of mule muffins. Kimmel knows nothing about how CHIP funding or Congressional funding negotiations work, CHIP is NOT in danger of being eliminated or unfunded, and there is no connection between this and the tax bill; they’re working on both simultaneously. Kimmel has gone from an occasionally funny schlub to a self-righteous fountain of liberal tears, regularly regurgitating phony leftist talking points gleaned straight from Move-On.org emails and spewing them over a national network, to wring applause from his audience of over-emotional nitwits. He is, in short, a useful idiot.
