Exactly.

I saw a show once where a wildlife cameraman was in a steel cage out on the ice. A hungry polar bear showed up, and the guy took video while the bear just BASHED and BIT the cage, ENRAGED that it couldn’t get at the tasty morsel inside. Bit the cage until his gums around his big, sharp teeth were bleeding.

There’s a reason Alaska guides typically carry bush rifles with hard cast bullets in a caliber starting with a four. These people are not Bambi-ists, they have no illusions about how to best maintain their position at the top of the food chain.

No. Most guides carry a .22 LR.

Although any .375 magnum would certainly be sufficient.
