British Major General Rialls, 1000 British Regulars and 400 Indian allies cross the Niagara River. They attack 2100 New York State Militia under the command of Major General Hall. After a short fight, the militia withdraws (by some accounts run). The British troops put the torch to the villages of Buffalo and Black Rock, burning all but 4 out of 150 buildings. Also burned are 4 ships tied up there. The British and their Indian allies withdraw to Canada.
Nicely done!! ‘-)
Withdrew to Canada? Why no occupy and advance? Patton wouldn’t approve
Yeah, after the war was officially over
raid was in retaliation for the Americans burning the Canadian village of Newark, a few weeks earlier.
It’s a very distinctive easy to see how it played out battlefield
And the book shop has 1812 stuff hard to find anywhere else
And some battlements and old homes etc still there
The British were at first overconfident and then the terrain bigger then down with their line
They charged a very fortified line in a virtual flat grassy field
And USA arty downriver did its job despite bad odds
Virtually everything went our way
