Pac-12 Suffers Worst Bowl Season Ever For a Power-5 Conference
SI ^ | December 30, 2017 | Khadrice Rollins

This bowl season was one that Pac-12 teams would not mind forgetting. With three-fourths of the conference headed to bowl games, there was potential for the Pac-12 to have an impressive showing and prove that despite not having a team qualify for the College Football Playoff, it is still one of the better Power-5 conferences. Instead, Utah was the only one of the nine teams to win its bowl game and the Pac-12 ended the bowl season with the worst record ever for a Power-5 Conference for an entire bowl season.

They should be #1. The SEC rigged committee kept them out.

That beat the team that both the sec finalists lost to... And UCF is undefeated. They are #1.

Yep.

If they’d adopt my plan, it would solve everything.

The Five Major Conference Champs: Clemson, Georgia, OU, USC and Ohio State.

Clemson and OU getting first round byes.

December 15: A “Play-In” between the two best At-Large teams, of which one MUST be from a non Power Five conference, if ranked in the Top 16. So, you would have had Alabama playing UCF.

December 22: The First Round

UCF/Bama winner, Georgia, USC and Ohio State.

The winners of those two games play OU and Clemson in the National Semi-Finals on New Years’ with the winners playing in the Championship Game.

It really shouldn’t be that hard to implement.

I’ll be curious to see if UCF gets any #1 votes in the final polls.

Three things:

a) an OUTSTANDING win to cap a PERFECT season for UCF .. by rights, whose to say they're not #1 ?!

b) thanks for nothin' to Michigan's lameness for f'n up the Big 10's bowl sweep

c) I don't have the solution for it, but this current 'playoff' setup is a fustercluck !

Oh, I don’t know how horrible it was. My Wisconsin Badgers seemed to do okay.

Georgia - Oklahoma should be fun. Neither team can stop the other.

Griffin was a beast. He has Auburn on the run the entire game.

OU’s offense is going through UGA’s D like a hot knife through butter.

Quite a game so far, and they're only 3/8 of the way through it  : )

And the committee had a 2 loss Auburn as #1 or #2 the final week of play. Yet everyone screams OSU has two losses and Bama only 1 (as if # of losses matter to the committee).

Clearly the committee is SEC biased again. ESPN needs to get paid I guess and the committee knows who butters their bread.

They need to get the politics out of it and just go to conference champs playing each other.

What the hell was OU thinking on that Kickoff?

They just gave UGA 3 points.

..conference champs playing each other.

IF only conference games are considered in determining conference results.

Sure, there are occasional upsets, and if you wanna schedule St. Radial of Michelin Academy as a warmup, feel free, but such should NOT count toward determining final conference wins/losses.

I know I trash talk SEC teams a lot, but this is embarrassing. How can they make any claims at all to being the premier conference of college football?

Their #1 team going into the last week of the season was Auburn—they lost to a no name conference team.

Their new #1 looks like they are going to get crushed by OU.

The SEC just doesn’t have it anymore. Sure they can field one good team, but no way can they dominate like the Big 10 did this year in bowl games. SEC is outclassed by ACC, Big 10, and Big 12.

I think Pac 12 and SEC are competitive though. They should be the conferences left out this year. Big 10 should have gotten two teams in the final 4. Or allow UCF in, but UCF really needs to move to a big league conference to be considered.
