Heinz packet found inside woman who believed she was suffering from Crohn's

A woman who thought she was suffering from Crohn’s disease for six years found the “sauce” of the problem when doctors discovered pieces of a Heinz sauce packet in the lining of her intestine.

The 41-year-old woman went to doctors after she experienced abdominal pain and bloating that was similar to Crohn’s disease symptoms, an inflammatory bowel disorder, the British Medical Journal said in a report.

Doctors at Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospital in Britain’s Slough monitored the symptoms and gave her standard treatment for the disease — but to no avail. The woman’s symptoms became so severe that doctors opted for keyhole surgery.

Surgeons discovered “an inflammatory mass” that was two pieces of plastic with the words “Heinz” printed on them.

Apparently not.

They do not say exactly where. Colonoscopy ONLY goes through large intestines, and Chron’s is said to affect the small intestines. That is basically a guessing game unless there is a mass to see.

Most people having IBS/D issues at some point go through a colonoscopy. I know this is NHS in Britain but in 6 years she probably had one. So, I’m guessing it was in her small intestines.

How blotto would you have to be not to realize you’ve swallowed a mustard packet?

Yup.

I’ve found that out dealing with GI issues.

Most “natural” food is bad for us GI people! Better to be as processed as possible.

Another reason I hate hearing from these “organic” hippies who think “natural” is the answer to everything.

“I’ve said this before, but in the early 1980s, a canned food company redid the label on canned corn, removing, “open can/heat/serve”, and adding the relatively new 800 number on the can.

The company got a lot of calls by panicked people requesting help. The company added back instructions.

(I guess on the bright side, people really do read labels.) “

Imagine left-handed people trying to open a can of corn with a right-handed can opener. There’s no instructions that say “this side up when opening”. Flip it so the twist knob is on the left and you have a mess.

A little off-topic, but which end of a Burrito are you supposed to start eating from?

There’s lots of stuff the acid does not destroy.

Take a look at full-blown corn kernals.

Or maybe you’d rather not!

If Heinz didn’t have a place to stash her packet, Kerry would have spent it all by now.

I’ve had a bunch. Had a 3 centimeter polyp removed. Doc said it had 30 percent chance of being cancer. It wasn’t but I was supposed to follow up about 3 years ago :(

Better get around to it for another test.

Only took 6 years to find her trouble? Isn’t Britain’s health care system great?

I suppose it’s possible whomever put together her sandwich put pieces of the wrapper in it during its prep. Sounds like no one would purposefully do something like that, but then, there are reports of people doing such things every now and then. I’m not sure how one would not notice something like that in their food, though. Maybe she ‘bolts’, instead of chewing enough.
