France does not want to treat its workers like the UK and US, with zero hours contracts and no protection for the unemployed, Philippe Martinez, the head of the hardline CGT, France’s biggest trade union, has said.

Last year, Martinez and his leftist union fought an unsuccessful battle with President Emmanuel Macron over a raft of reforms aimed at freeing up France’s rigid jobs market.

Those controversial reforms cut into the power of France’s trade unions and made it easier for firms to lay off staff.

Martinez believes Macron is influenced by the “Anglo-Saxon” model but he does not want to see the same situation in France.

“Anglo-Saxon countries like the UK and US are Macron’s model…his inspiration,” Martinez told a gathering of journalists from the Anglo American Press Association including The Local. …

“Workers’ Rights” means no rights for any other person. Only blue-collar low-level people.

I won’t take your bet because you’re 100% right. What pisses me off is that we’ll need risk our lives to save these 50 IQ apes from their stupidity and the Muslims who want to kill them. And, further, they will show zero appreciation for saving their commie asses.

I did hate learning French numbers higher than 50, because they made no sense. The number 70 is “soixante-dix”, or “sixty-ten” rather than “septante”. Even worse, 80 is “quatre-vingt” (four-twenties) instead of “huitante” and 90 is “quatre-vingt dix” (four-twenty-ten) instead of “neufante”.

I thought in Quebec they use “septante”.

I have a film recommendation, it’s a French movie called “Apres Mai” (After May), about the student protests in 1968. You talk about screwed-up, these “students” were hardcore Maoists. And they went on to infiltrate all aspects of French society, and are primarily responsible for the mess France is today.

Possible. I haven’t looked into it too deeply. Some parts of Switzerland use “huitante” for 80, FWICS; other French-speaking areas apparently use “octante”. I’m just recalling what I learned in school.

They have “Arrêt” on their stop signs in Québec as well, even though they say “Stop” in France.

Which is weird considering how the French are so concerned with English words creeping into their language.
