Frank Praytor, the U.S. Marine who gained a level of fame after being photographed nursing a kitten during the Korean War, died on January 10, 2018 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was 90 years old and had been in poor health for several years.
The widely distributed photo of Praytor with the kitten would prove to be more that just an endearing moment of humanity captured in the midst of a brutal war, it would later save him from being court martialed.

I love this dude!
While in the midst of that maelstrom he finds time to cuddle a kitten!
What a guy!
Saved that kitten from the hungry grandfather of Whoa Fat!
That photo is in my work laptop slide show for idleness.
Many units in Vietnam had mascots. This is the Special Forces Detachment B-32 mascot in 1966 in Tay Ninh. He is a Honey Bear, his name was Dinka Dau, and he was all fun and games until he grew into 300 pounds of meanness.
This is the first I’ve heard about this or seen the photo.
What a touching photo it is!
It was nice to learn he was reunited with the kitteh later on and that she was a spoiled brat. :-)
RIP, Frank Praytor.
Good evening ‘du!

That really was a good name, wasn’t it? But I do hope she didn’t live up to it though.
We have a few it would be appropriate for!
LOL
Sounds to me like she was spoiled rotten!
Probably lived a very happy life!
Wonder what happened to the other kitten?
It does sound that way. Glad she was lucky enough to be taken in.
Since they didn’t say, the other kitten must not have been so lucky.
Or maybe it was taken in elsewhere and he just didn’t get to see it again when he went back.
He died in Albuquerque, and is being buried in Santa Fe? Hmm.
I was surprised he didn’t take the kittens, but probably not so easy to do.
Veterans cemetery is at the State Capitol, Santa Fe.
Thanks for the info.
God bless him, Semper fi.
Prayers for his family.
that picture is backwards......LOL!
